Pet-Friendly Hotel near Washington, DC and National Landmarks

Arlington, Virginia, sits across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, on a stretch of land that was once part of our nation's capital. In fact, you can still see the District of Columbia's original boundary stones that were set out in the 1790s. What makes Arlington one of your favorite getaways? I love the history and culture of the place—plus, I was born in Frederick, Maryland, so the area brings back a lot of childhood memories.

Describe your perfect day in Arlington. I'd take a nice walk in Lady Bird Johnson Park along the water, followed by some golf at East Potomac and then bar-hopping.

Do you know any useful bits of local slang? The "Mixing Bowl" is a traffic term for the point where Interstates 495, 395, and 95 all converge.

What's the best thing you've ever eaten here? Ray's to the Third on the corner of Wilson Boulevard and Quinn Street has this Hell burger that has some secret steak blend. It's really good. I think the guy who owns it has a bunch of other burger places, too.

What should someone read, listen to, or watch to mentally prepare for a visit? The Declaration of Independence and the film Independence Day-in that order.
