Days 1–5: South Africa

After arriving in Johannesburg, you’ll use transfers or pick up a rental car and drive to the Savannah Game & River Resort in Parys. The lodge is located on a 2,500-acre private savannah, which guests can explore during long hikes and optional river-rafting and biking tours. During an included game drive, you’ll cruise over the grazing grounds of nearly 25 different mammal species, including zebras and jackals. Other optional activities available through the resort include fly-fishing for yellowfish on the Vaal River and trips to Vredefort Dome, the world’s largest meteor crater.

Days 6–10: Zimbabwe and Botswana

On Day 6, you’ll drive to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg for a flight to Zimbabwe. There, you’ll stay at The Kingdom Hotel, which sits on the edge of a manmade lake close to Victoria Falls. You’ll take a guided tour of the falls⎯the world’s largest curtain of cascading water⎯including several gorges that serve as nesting sites for four endangered bird species. A sunset cruise down the Zambezi river is also included.

On the eighth day, you’ll head across the border into nearby Botswana for a full-day safari in Chobe National Park, a game reserve with four different ecosystems. The area is known for having the largest concentration of elephants of any African national park. You will have the chance to see the rest of the Big Five here, as well as giraffes, impalas, and wildebeests. Keep an eye out for the watering holes—especially during the dry season—as you can usually spot animals coming down for a drink.
