Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún's Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it's a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun.

Needs some work but enjoyable holiday We came here at the end of July 2024 for a 10 night family holiday in a Junior Suite. It has to be said the place is a little tired but the staff do work really hard to ensure the place is clean and tidy with daily room cleaning although hand towels and floor mats for the bathroom remain a mystery. The balcony had the best view of anywhere we’ve ever stayed but for a room capable of having 5 people in only 2 chairs is a bit stingy. The food is great and always plenty to choose from, the omelettes at breakfast were simply the best! The bar staff were fantastic and the cocktails were great and plentiful, always easy to get served. The pool was good if a little small and the Waterpark over the road was really good for the smaller kids and having direct access to the sea and beach was great. However this area had the biggest issue as well, there was plenty of room for a decent sunbed area but they were severely lacking in numbers and quality. Especially parasols, there was no shade around the pool at all which given how hot it was and the strength of the sun it was really disappointing. This could also be used at night as seating are to have a drink and take in the views. Definitely get Uber as it’s only a 200mxn cab ride into Cancun to sample the madness there! All in all a good hotel that wouldn’t take much to make it really good! Would return.

Brilliant service and food The service is very friendly and lively, food was delicious. The choices of food either in the buffet or a la carte restaurant is very good. Special thanks to Antonio and Daniel for excellent service in the oyster Caribbean a la carte restaurant.

Don't do it. This was the worst resort experience of my life Let me start with the good. The complimentary dinner on the beach was nice. The rooms had real cold AC and the staff was nice. It's all downhill from the there. The furniture in my room was dated and had stains. See pics for the bathroom mirror & caulking. The buffet is mediocre. There are no elevators & I was on the 4th floor ACROSS the street from the main resort. There weren't any nightly activities. There is no snack bar that stays open late. You have to pay $25 more for premium alcohol. I cut my visit short and made sure I did excursions to take up the majority of the day. The AC in the lobby & buffet area suck. There's little to no circulation so it was HOT. I've stayed at many resorts and this one was disappointing. I'll stop there, but could go on and on.
