Beyond the Las Vegas Strip: Old Vegas and Red Rock Canyon

It can feel like the entire city of Las Vegas revolves around the Strip if you never venture beyond that neon-lit corridor. But there’s plenty to see and do once you step off Las Vegas Boulevard. You can find a taste of Old Vegas on Fremont Street, where vintage signs and showgirls crowned with headdresses recall the days of Sinatra and Martin. Beginning at dusk, a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights erupts in a psychedelic light-and-music show every hour. For an aerial view, zoom down the center of Fremont Street on a zipline.

Nature puts on its own show at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a landscape of fiery-red sandstone formations and limestone cliffs just 17 miles outside the city. Motor down the 13-mile scenic drive or ditch the car and strike out on any of more than 20 hiking trails that course through the region’s otherworldly topography.

Staying off the strip Staying off the strip for a change to see more of the old school Vegas . Price excellent for 2 nights. Check in easy but lifts were not working but staff very friendly and found another way for me to get up . On reaching my room there was someone else there ! ! Very embarrassing for both of us . I went down to request another room , and the staff were very confused but helpful, so I think the person may have been an unwelcome guest who somehow got into a room . All old hotels in Vegas permeate with the smell of tobacco through every layer even on the non smoking floors . For a non smoker it’s very noticeable so it’s something you have to accept . Enjoyed a good burger and a few games on the older style machines . Nice place to stay !

Terrible place and charges resort fees for things you cannot use Charged resort fees even though I didn't use anything that they are supposed to cover. The pool was not available yet, I had to pay a resort fee for something I cannot use. Toilet dirty, sink dirty, ac vents dirty, bathroom fan dirty. Couldn't shower one day as water pressure went from excellent to non existent. Will not return as my complaints were completely dismissed.

Stole my deposit! Unbelievable. I traveled alone, I asked for pillows, a bathtub stopper, and to have my room freshened as it reeked of chronic weed. Front Desk, Thomasa, was great, as well as engineering = freshening and pillows. I enjoyed the bathtub nice full size. When I left I always strip my bed, place dirty towels together, and garbage in one bag. And since I work in hospitality I always tip. It has been a week and I had not received my $75 deposit refunded. When I called they said I had damaged the headboard. How could placing a pillow to lean against damage the headboard? I wanted to speak with housekeeping, but they refused to transfer me, and of course the manager was gone by 2:30. I have to be in Vegas on Monday and will speak with them in person after 10am and I wish to see what "damages" they are concocting to steal my $75.00. This place with their fees, no valet, and fake website that leads to a 3rd party reservation azcharliesstreet77 - isn't worth the aggravation. Avoid at all costs.
