Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

So dirty I stayed in room 874 the room had not been cleaned since the hotel was built. There was what looked like blood all over curtains and wall. The dust was so thick on the ceiling and behind the night stand. The bathroom had mold everywhere. You can see the dirt in the light covers. The lock on front door and bathroom door looked like it was chiseled then replaced. When I went to the front desk the girls and manager were making a joke about it basically laughing at me. I had comps so the room was free. I WOULD NEVER pay a dollar to stay here. Yuck!

Dirty and dated. I've been coming here for many years. Since it became a non-Caesar's property it's gone down hill big time. Casino is dirty and people smoke wherever they want. Employees are indifferent to everything. Security is non-existent. The final straw is they took away free parking for players on Saturdays. There are much better choices in Atlantic City. I'm not coming back

Great stay, great pricing, spectacular room. Need to hire more staff. First a shoutout to Abigail from housekeeping. I needed a second luggage stand and she came through quickly and without needing to be asked more than once. Thank you, Abigail. We spent three nights while attending a trade show at the Convention Center. The renovated rooms in Bally’s Tower are really nice, bordering on spectacular. We had a Jr. Suite facing the ocean. The room was new and modern, very nicely done. If you're into soaking in the bathtub you could not do better. The tub was huge! The view on our side of the building was great. Yes, you could see some roof from the adjacent parts of the Bally's complex but all in all the view couldn't be beat. The boardwalk, beach and ocean were all there. We were there early in the week, so the prices were good. Now for the rest.................... The front desk folks were all very nice, but short-staffed. All interactions with the front desk took longer than they should have. The only place to get coffee in the morning is the Dunkin Donuts concession in the lobby. What a mismanaged operation! Grossly understaffed. The staff that was present was moving in slow motion, and unable to make simple operational decisions that would move things along. Forty minutes to get a simple cup of coffee. Just unacceptable!!!!!! Carliuccio's Pizza was very good and reasonably priced. All in all, a nice stay
