Hotel at a Glance: Basecamp South Lake Tahoe

You don’t need to take a train or drive a car to get to Lake Tahoe from Basecamp South Lake Tahoe. The lake is just a five-minute walk from the hotel’s front door and it inspires much of the hotel’s design. The decor is underscored by a rustic, eco-friendly vibe; much of it was constructed using repurposed wood from old barns. The Time magazine praised the inn for its “stylish, environmentally-friendly rooms,” which include kerosene-lantern-style lamps and other woodsy accents. They’re great places to recharge after kayaking on Lake Tahoe or hiking Mount Tallac’s rocky trails.

  • Enjoy craft beers and gourmet brats at the on-site beer garden and restaurant, which also features nightly live music.
  • The courtyard hot tub is a quiet place to unwind amid the mountain views and can fit up to 16 people.
  • Roast s’mores in the outdoor fire pits after the sun sets.
  • Recent awards: TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2015, 2016, and 2017
  • On-site brewery in the beer garden called Outpost Brewing Co. serving up their first brews on tap .

South Lake Tahoe, California: Year-Round Haven for Outdoor Adventures and Late-Night Revelry

Lake Tahoe has no real off-season; people find ways to make use of its pristine water, beaches, and mountains all year long. In the summer, the lake’s clear, freshwater surface—which straddles the California-Nevada border—is dotted with swimmers, boaters, and jet skiers. Several ski resorts typically stay open from November to April, and Emerald Bay State Park is accessible year-round. A moderately easy hike to the base of Lower Eagle Falls reveals breathtaking views of the waterfalls crashing down from above.

Spectators gather at night for South Lake Tahoe’s events, which range from wine and food festivals to rock concerts and fireworks displays. A few miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe sits Stateline, Nevada, where a handful of casinos host high-stakes games of blackjack and solitaire.

We loved the style of base camp and all the fun activities and areas to hangout there. The fire pits and beer garden were awesome. The vibe there is great with live music on the weekends plus the free breakfast and fun for families with kids with board games and ping pong plus the hot tubs. We had the best time and we loved that the locations was easy to walk to heavenly and all the casinos so convenient.

Family reunion Terrible place! No condition, just fans, but it did not cool down the room. So hot in room at the evening. A lot of garbage around of the hotel. We paid over $300 for a room - way too expensive. Will not stay in this hotel anymore and do not recommend for anybody. Private beach entrance $10 per person - it is expensive, cheaper to pay $10 per car at Pope Beach. We never saw so ran down hotel in CA

Don’t stay here !! Ok so the pictures I saw online suckered me I'm into booking this hotel. And it wasn't cheap to stay here either. Book this spot if you plan on taking out ur own trash and leaving it outside ur room to get picked up. No one cleans your room till you check out. Need towels get them at the front desk. That's a joke. I was trying to relax being in Lake Tahoe but this dump made our stay a disaster . It was More like motel. It was tiny, the bathroom they don't refill the shampoos and conditioners and the shower curtain looks like they need to replace it is supposed to be white and at the bottom was reddish like rust . Then going to the room no telephone or controller for the tv. There was papers stating press 0 to call the from desk with what my phone!!! So if we had an issue we had to walk over all the time to the front desk . The control replacement was a joke only the channel button works we had to walk over to turn up or down the volume and turn on or off the tv. Fridge sucks don't bring food unless you plan on tossing because it will go bad. Wow don't stay keep scrolling for a different hotel. This place needs a massive upgrade. Trust me don't make the same mistake like we did staying here.

Best pizza I have ever had Went here on a whim and holy moly was I blown away! Ordered the roasted veggie pizza with goat cheese. Oh man oh man wasit amazing! Got the spaghetti Bolonase and Caesar salad with the garlic bread, oh my god I was sold! Best place to eat in Tahoe hands down. So good, so full of flavor. Went there three nights in a row. Loved it so much. Definitely a stop for all who are in the area of Tahoe where you can easily access this lovely gem. Great place to eat, good prices and probably some of the best food you will get in Tahoe.
