Traverse City, Michigan: Charming Cherry Capital of the World
One of USA Today’s 10 Great Places for Local Wines, Traverse City draws visitors year-round with its fine rieslings made from grapes grown on the fertile Old Mission Peninsula. The proclaimed “Cherry Capital of the World,” tucked between the pinky and ring finger on the hand-shaped Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is bordered by scenic Grand Traverse Bay to the north and the sprawling Traverse City State Forest Area to the east.
The town’s downtown and waterfront thrive with gourmet restaurants and landmarks such as the State Theatre, a restored art-house cinema built in 1949; drop by for the $0.25 Saturday morning matinee. A drive north up the Old Mission Peninsula eventually ends at the whitewashed Mission Point Lighthouse, a landmark constructed in 1870.

Incredibly clean and affordable. Attentive staff. Pool is open late. Great location on bay. Ice cream, fireplace and beautiful Christmas tree for the holidays. Wonderful anytime of the year.

Another great visit. Booked one night for the Marc Maron show at the Opera House. Everything was great as usual. We have been here 5-6 times in the last three years and we cannot say enough about this hotel. The staff are always friendly, the rooms clean, the breakfast good, the beds comfy. We even got an upgrade to a lake view!
This is our favorite one or two night get away and we surely will be back soon.

A terrific find for a destination we've enjoyed often. First time staying here and it was GREAT! We had a 3rd floor King spa room with a view toward the Coast Guard station and the bay. Nice balcony, but too cold this trip. Also, this was spur-of-the-moment for one night, but longer next time. The in-room spa was the nicest we've had. The beach looked inviting for next time. Breakfast was very good -- fluffy scrambled eggs! The decor was surprising -- Victorian-style furniture in the very large public areas.

Still a Great Hotel We have been staying at the Bayshore ever since they opened. It is still a wonderful hotel. The staff is excellent, the rooms are clean and updated and the breakfest is good. They have recently updated the exterior of their hotel. I strongly recommend this hotel
