Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Historic Towns and Miles of Protected Beaches

In the late 19th century, Cape Cod blossomed into a summer vacation destination as visitors swapped crowded coastal cities for the sandy shores of eastern Massachusetts. Today, the arm-shaped peninsula, located 60 miles south of Boston, encompasses 15 idyllic towns, rolling dunes, and 300 miles of sandy shoreline—and it’s still the place where many East Coasters choose to spend their leisurely summer days. Popular attractions include fresh-seafood restaurants, quaint stores, and bicycle trails, such as the 11-mile Shining Sea Bikeway that wends from North Falmouth to Woods Hole.

On the uppermost tip of the Cape, the free-spirited art colony of Provincetown attracts visitors year-round. This is one of the best places to head for a vibrant nightlife scene—there are cabarets, bars, and lounges aplenty. Pop into the Provincetown Art Association and Museum to check out local artwork, both historical and contemporary.

Overpriced, sub-par poperty We booked one of their top rooms for a "get out of dodge" weekend. Very overpriced for what you get. First the positives: Excellent front desk staff, awesome view and very clean room. Now the negatives: The mattress was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever tried to sleep on and the bed pad was never put on right plus it was too big. We would up with large waves of bunched up pad underneath us. The fan in the bathroom did not shut off when the light was shut off. The woman at the front desk stated that it should go off accordingly and asked if we'd like maintenance to look at it. We said yes. They showed up promptly and told us it does not shut off with the switch due to air circulation issues. It eventually shut off some time during the night. We turned the temp down at bedtime but that resulted in the a/c turning on, sounding like a jet taking off. Furnishings were reminiscent of what should be in a Motel 6. In general, room was outdated. Our room overlooked the patio as well as the bay. Friday night there were rowdy people outside until 12:30 am. Saturday night two people were arguing very loudly around midnight on the patio and someone kept beeping a car horn in the parking lot. The breakfast food was not good at all. Scrambled eggs could not be eaten-they tasted like they had been brined in salt water. Hash browns were under-cooked and pastries tasted like they had been frozen. Coffee was average. Others were not happy with the food. Will never stay here again.

Glad we did not stay the night My wife & I went for an overnight specifically to use the sauna. We checked out three hours after checking in. First the positives: The jacuzzi was fine. The room was clean and of decent size. Many reviews complain of a moldy odor but we did not notice this. The hallway did smell of cigarette smoke but this is more on a guest than the hotel. The parking lot smelled of sulfur dioxide but this was likely from the adjacent salt marsh rather than sewage and should in no way reflect on the hotel. Now the negatives: There are two saunas, one for men and one for women. The women's sauna was not working. The staff looked at it twice but gave up. My wife would not go in the pool because the water was very cloudy indicating a high bacterial count. The walls of our room were paper thin and it was obvious that sleeping there would be difficult. So after three hours we checked out. Now many hotels would give a full refund, but we just asked for a small discount on the $200 we had paid. The manager stated that he could not give a discount because we had booked through Expedia. The room was booked on the hotel website. The manager's claim that we used Expedia sure looked like an outright lie. At this point I would still give them 2 stars in recognition of the positives. Unfortunately there is more. The hotel also put a $60 security deposit pending charge on my charge card. That is fine but should be refunded after a day or so. Almost three weeks later I called to ask why the $60 pending charge remained on my credit card. The front desk informed me I would receive it in a few days minus $10 that is "nonrefundable." Now this room was listed at $150 and right before you book they slap on an additional $50 "tax and cleaning charge." Evidently many hotels do this - the State Attorney General calls it a junk charge and hopes to do away with it. When we booked there was absolutely no indication of this other "nonrefundable fee." They also nickel and dime in other ways. Check in time is 4 PM. If you want to check in 3 PM there is a $20 fee. In the past hotels gave the courtesy of letting you check in early if the room was ready. If it weren't for the antics with the $60 security deposit I would give them 2 stars.

Overnight with grandsons 5&7 yo Hotel, pool area, grounds are all well maintained. Breakfast was epic & staff keep area clean & stocked during breakfast hours. I live in Falmouth and have tried many hotels for overnights when I have to entertain my 5 & 7 yo grandsons and choose Bayside because it is “parent approved “ and senior pocketbook friendly.

Great This is our first time to the cape. We ended up at Bayside Resort and Hotel because of the location and reviews. It was the right choice. It’s a nice place. Not overly fancy, but nice. The staff is great. They’re super friendly, and the maid service did a shockingly good job cleaning up our room despite the mess we left. And the location is perfect for us. It’s close to a bunch of kid-themed attractions and an easy drive to the beach.
