Pompano Beach, Florida: Family-Friendly Beach Town with Reef and Wreck Diving

According to local legend, Pompano Beach was named after a modest dinner. The story goes that one of the town’s founders came up with the moniker after enjoying a meal of pompano fish, which is native to the area. The tasty namesake helped establish this stretch of Florida’s Gold Coast as a sportfishing hub—the area is home to a popular tournament called the Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo.

It’s not the area’s main draw, though. That distinction goes to the city’s miles-long stretch of beach, where you’ll find some of the Atlantic coast’s warmest waters, courtesy of a bend in the Gulf Stream. This makes for ideal snorkeling and scuba-diving conditions; swim below the surface to see colorful coral-reef tracts and dozens of submerged shipwrecks.

Good but needs some improvements in management Currently here and having a great time overall. It does feel like this resort is operated as two separate entities. The pool and beach staff , are all amazing, very friendly always helping everyone. The front desk and indoor staff are the complete opposite. Rude and always look bothered when you ask a question. They are never at the front desk, just rush out of the room if someone walks up to the desk, but never greeting or willing to help. Beach is beautiful and pool is well maintained. Always a plus to have beach lounges and umbrellas. I would return but definitely adjusting my expectations.

Our little getaway oasis Had a great stay at the Beachcomber! My wife and I have made this our choice hotel when we want to get away. Service is great, atmosphere is wonderful and rooms are great as well. Staff at the property is attentive (front desk, pool, The Deep, tiki bar, valet) friendly & welcoming.

Kicked out with 10 month old baby for complaining about dirty room! We checked in on June 2nd our room was not ready till after 4PM. Once in the room I went to give my baby a bath only to find a bathtub full of pubic hair and a clogged drain! I tried the sink, also clogged! I was unable to bathe my daughter or wash her bottles! The ice bucket was also FILTHY! I called the front desk and was told a supervisor would call me in the morning when they got in. I was not offered cleaning or a new room (please check your cameras to confirm THE TRUTH AS I WAS TOLD I WAS LYING BY OLIVER)! That night we heard screaming on our balcony and banging, we thought we were getting robbed! My parents were staying in the room next to us and my dad called to let me know our neighbor climbed over the fence and took our chair! I called the following morning and was told the supervisor will call me when he gets in. Fast forward to the afternoon, I received a call around 1:00PM with no apology, no cleaning service, and no new room (AGAIN CHECK YOUR CAMERAS FOR TRUTH OLIVER)! I asked to speak to the front desk manager, she came to my room and didn't offer an apology and told me to confront my neighbor regarding the chair! When I told her I didn't feel comfortable doing that she said the hotel does not have extra chairs. I asked to speak to the general manager, Oliver. He was condescending, did not apologize, called me a liar, and extremely hostile with a complete lack of hospitality! Instead of helping me he told me the cops are on the way and we are kicked out of the hotel since HE CAN NOT HELP ME! This was a 2-night stay and we were kicked out 5:00PM the night before check out! Oliver kicked out a family with a 10 month old baby and 2 seniors in their 70s LEFT ON THE STREETS over a complaint his hotel was in the wrong for! We were NOT refunded! Read the reviews, people are telling the truth! This hotel is NOT safe, employees DO NOT care about you, your family, or what you're spending! I gave my statement to the cops, this was a NIGHTMARE of a "vacation"!
