Scottsdale, Arizona: Stucco Mansions amid Rocky Desert Landscape

Scottsdale once served as ranch land where farmers grew oranges and lemons and cowboys kicked up dust in the fierce, dry heat of the Sonoran Desert. That era earned Scottsdale the nickname of “The West’s Most Western Town.” Today, it is an affluent city landscaped with lush green grass and lined with stucco mansions. For a glimpse of the city’s Old West roots, head to Old Town Scottsdale, where wooden boardwalks and hitching posts sit in front of a retro ice-cream parlor and rustic specialty shops.

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, you know you’re in the desert—cacti and tumbleweeds dot the landscape, and dry shrubs and gnarled trees cover the McDowell Mountains in the distance. To get a closer look at Southwestern flora, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. There, themed trails wind past huge cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents, best seen in the cooler early morning or twilight hours.

Expensive for Value Needs maintenance. Drawers did not close properly; had to jiggle 2 drawers in order to open/close. Screen door fell off the track Typical dreary, dark room. No water, no robe, but did have a good breakfast burrito. Housekeeping once every 3 days unless you request. With tax, parking etc, it was about $359 a night. Expensive for amenities offered. Pool was good.

Not the best Best Western for $300/night Here's a little synopsis of the hotel: Tv didn’t work-had to unplug it a few times to get it to turn on and channels would go off due to bad signal Weird bathroom door limits privacy (wooden horizontal slats) Limited seating for breakfast And they serve you a specific amount of food (not Buffett) $10 night for parking Loud music until 2:00 am from clubs across the street Only do housekeeping every 3 days Shower only with half-glass door (water spills on the bathroom floor) and no place to set your items Towels are small Bathroom is very small Sink and counter are outside the bathroom so that makes changing in private a little more difficult due to the smaller size The hotel plays music through speakers outside the rooms starting at around 6:00 am There are no interior hallways for most of the rooms so in the summer be prepared to face the heat when you open your room door.

Gem in the Heart of Scottsdale The hotel is really a gem in the heart of Scottsdale. Great staff, great location, and a great place to stay. A tremendous amount of care was put into the design of the hotel and what it offers. You are in the middle of everything that is happening in Scottsdale, with great shopping and restaurants a short walk away, spas and hikes/pathway walks in the neighbourhood, and great access by both car and foot to many attractions in the city. The hotel itself is clean, well managed, and has great rooms. It is clear the building is inspired by the architecture of the region (FLW and others) with many contemporary twists, and it plays out in the patterns and colours of the spaces. It feels like you are at a small resort in the middle of the city. With outdoor walkways to rooms and to the pool, you really get to enjoy the weather of Scottsdale. The rooms offer great amenities like jacuzzis and comfortable beds, along with shutters and window control to help keep spaces cool in the hot months. I was very happy to stay here and enjoy the city from the Sundial. I would strongly recommend it to friends if they are travelling here. Great hotel with great service.

Staff is amazing! This place was great! The staff was amazing! So friendly and helpful, we felt like we were at a Hilton. Breakfast was good, different from other continental breakfast places. Wish it would have been warmer weather to take advantage of the pool and hot tub. We had a nice balcony facing the pool which was nice. Felt very safe and it is a great location for shopping, dinner, dancing, bars, etc. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. Thanks again for the great service!

Very Noisy location Very noisy AC in the room and very noisy location. I won’t recommend to stay here unless you are looking for endless party. The entertainment district is just on the other side of the road and you will have to listen to the party all night. The breakfast was good though.
