Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Historic Towns and Miles of Protected Beaches

In the late 19th century, Cape Cod blossomed into a summer vacation destination as visitors swapped crowded coastal cities for the sandy shores of eastern Massachusetts. Today, the arm-shaped peninsula, located 60 miles south of Boston, encompasses 15 idyllic towns, rolling dunes, and 300 miles of sandy shoreline—and it’s still the place where many East Coasters choose to spend their leisurely summer days. Popular attractions include fresh-seafood restaurants, quaint stores, and bicycle trails, such as the Cape Cod Rail trail.

On the uppermost tip of the Cape, the free-spirited art colony of Provincetown attracts visitors year-round. This is one of the best places to head for a vibrant nightlife scene—there are cabarets, bars, and lounges aplenty. Pop into the Provincetown Art Association and Museum to check out local artwork, both historical and contemporary.

Our favorite Cape Cod family vacation spot My family has been vacationing at the Blue Water for years… decades even! We have seen many changes over the years and I can honestly say it’s still our favorite vacation spot on the Cape. The rooms have been nicely renovated. The floor gets a bit sandy and a daily mopping from housekeeping would be a great addition to the new tile floors. Beware and maybe bring your own broom! We always stay in the patio/garden/pool view room area. We were a bit disappointed that there were not two designated chairs for each room and the small tables were taken away. In addition there is no trash can in the patio area at all. For the price we are paying, we should at least have two chairs per room outside. The Riviera had some great furniture near the pool, so I’m hoping Blue Water meets that expectation next year. The fees are a bit excessive. One glaring error is the email that gets sent before your arrival states that the indoor pool IS open, but that’s not actually true. These small details are causing a lot of unnecessary negativity. In addition, I think the resort fee should be waived or reduced since not all features of the resort are actually open. Otherwise, we love the Blue Water for its location, access to amenities, family friendly atmosphere (GASP! There are people here with children… beware!!) and access to the Riviera pools and Blue Water outdoor pool. My children loved going to all the different pools and the beach! Shoutout to our favorite bartender Jason! We also loved the animal show and the magician!

Disappointing Experience Such a disappointment. Other than the location, not much positive to say. Indoor pool, gym and pub all closed and we were not informed of this when booking. Housekeeping was terrible. Room was I guess renovated, but it seemed cheaply done. Pool overcrowded with children. Not my idea of a relaxing or luxurious vacation.

Great Experience at the newly renovated Blue Water Resort The serenity of the lush foliage outside my suite was great, made sitting on the patio easy and provided just enough privacy. The suite itself was homey & the renovations are very nice. Amenities galore and the property is easy to navigate with the adjacent properties... Outside bars, pools & of course the beach ⛱️ lots of chairs available to accommodate the guests. The staff was great _ I would definitely recommend staying at ANY of the Red Jacket properties along SS Drive in Yarmouth MA. This Time, I stayed at Blue Water but have stayed in the other resorts before and would say they're all beautiful spots.
