Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Unimpressed Disappointed with rooms, they were dirty and looked like that hadn't been changed over; towels unfolded, no trash can liners, floors not mopped or vacumed and when being moved to other rooms things got worse, broken shower glass door, shards of glass in wrong and upon complaint I felt like a bother to the staff.

Nasty pool and hot tub I love staying at The Borgata. This trip however was not the best. It was during spring break so the staff at the pool seemed slightly overwhelmed. The last few times I have come, the pool area and hot tub are disgusting. The hot tub is always full or hair, ants and random things floating in the water. That use to be the best part of my trip, enjoying the amenities. I am slightly turned off and passed the hot tub and pool our last day of vacation. I think the pool and hot tub need a very deep cleaning. Even the floors in the pool area are slimy and filthy. Please clean up so I can go back to enjoying The Borgata!

Borgata April 2025 Our stay would have been fine if there had not been a bug crawling on my bed. Staff was notified and shown a picture and video. We had to change rooms. They followed up the same night but I did not speak to them as I was too tired and still upset about the bug. I went to the front desk the next morning at 7am and spoke with the manager on duty, he informed me of what would happen and that i would be informed of the findings good or bad. I thought he would have offered some kind of compensation for our trouble, but he did not. After a 10 minute conversation I finally asked for some kind of comp. He put a $50.00 food credit on our room. Then I spoke with another front desk manager who called to inform us of the findings and that the bug was a carpet beetle. She also checked to see if things were okay since the move and she offered us another $50.00 food credit, which I did appreciate. I was upset however when housekeeping came up to look at the room after I informed the desk of the bug, as she stripped the bed and was upset as it was "dirty". She was not happy about that and did not want us staying in the room even if she did change the bedding. There was something sticky, as in a spilled drink or such on the one bedside table, so i tend to agree with her. Unfortunately I was too stressed to really enjoy our stay, but made the best of it.
