Tampa, Florida: Sunny Days, Beaches, and Busch Gardens

Given that Tampa has more than 15 white-sand beaches and nearly 250 sunny days a year, it should come as no surprise that Forbes magazine ranked it the fifth best city in America for enjoying the outdoors. Set on the Gulf Coast, about 90 miles southwest of Orlando, the city offers abundant green spaces as well as year-round opportunities for fishing, surfing, and golfing on waterfront courses.

Roller coasters and exotic animals share real estate at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, a theme park designed to evoke the thrills of an African safari. Like a big cat sprinting after its prey, Cheetah Hunt—one of the park’s newer thrill rides—reaches speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Back on solid ground, you can get up close and personal with more than 2,000 animals living in detailed replicas of their natural habitats.

This little hotel was a special surprise. We travel a great deal and, most of the time, stay at popular major chain hotels. This time we elected to explore and were delighted. The staff is very courteous and, despite our booking at a 50% discount because of the Groupon deal, made us feel welcomed from the first moment. Though the hotel may require some aesthetician upgrades, location is excellent.

Go to next door hotel If you’re looking for a clean overnight stay in an area that has not much in walking distance this is great! The remodel is ongoing & the paint job etc show need for improvement. The breakfast was pretty good! The pool wasn’t useable being too cold. Overall i expected way better for the price LaQuinta next door looked better inside & out!!!

Great hotel other than firm beds The staff are pleasant to be around and the 24 hour coffee is a plus. We didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool. The bathrooms are nice. The bed however are very firm. Which is okay as long as you expect it ahead of time. The breakfast is minor. Bagels, muffins, cereal, etc. So don't expect bacon, sausage, and such. Other than that, it's a good hotel. It's nice for shorter stays.

what price? We did a rare thing for us which was to book without doing research. We were on a cruise and needed a day use room quickly using the ships phone - as our friends had booked here we decided to book same place - a mistake. First of all was the price. We had phoned the hotel direct for the booking and were told on the phone that we could have it for a day use but their system had to record it as an overnight. $107 plus taxes etc. When we arrived the guy at reception said that we had booked through expedia! and if we had booked direct then the day rate was $80? However, we have had no email from expedia but did get one from the hotel. As for the hotel - it's location is set back and hidden by trees, ditches and standing water filled with rubbish. Breakfast is included but is very basic packaged muffins and bagel etc. Coffee is available but is not great. Carpet is dirty and hard to roll suitcases on. I am not going to complain about cleanliness as the staff have a battle on their hands. The place is rundown, the windows need replacing as do the fixings, wallpaper has not been renewed but has been painted over thickly and poorly. It is a great shame as the place has a lot going for it such as a lift, laundry, fitness centre but is missing so much such as the ability to order a taxi or having any real sense of investment. It has the feel of a budget hotel that has been given up on.
