Honolulu, HI: Where History Meets Island Splendor

Nestled on the southern shores of Oahu, Honolulu stands as a beacon of cultural heritage and natural beauty, seamlessly blending the echoes of its storied past with the vibrancy of modern island life. This Pacific gem, once the seat of Hawaiian royalty, is home to the grand Iolani Palace—the only royal palace in the United States—where the legacies of King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani still resonate. The city’s historic district boasts the iconic Kawaiahaʻo Church, the esteemed Bishop Museum, and the solemn Pearl Harbor National Memorial, a site of profound reflection and remembrance. Against this backdrop of history, the bustling Waikiki Beach offers a dynamic contrast, with its world-renowned surf breaks, luxury resorts, and lively nightlife, making it a magnet for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Beyond its famed shoreline, Honolulu serves as the gateway to Oahu’s diverse landscapes, where rugged volcanic craters meet lush rainforests and pristine bays. The ascent to Diamond Head Crater rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Pacific, while the serene Hanauma Bay invites snorkelers to explore its thriving coral reefs. Culinary enthusiasts will find a rich tapestry of flavors in Honolulu’s dining scene, where traditional Hawaiian fare, Asian influences, and contemporary fusion cuisine converge. Whether immersing oneself in the chants of a hula performance, savoring a plate of fresh poke, or standing in reverence at the USS Arizona Memorial, Honolulu offers an experience that is as deeply rooted in history as it is in the exhilarating pulse of the present.

Close to the airport A positive is they are REALLY close to the airport. Check in was a breeze. Water pressure for the shower was adequate. The AC was loud but that did help drown out the highway traffic. Wi-Fi was great. I wish the room had queen beds instead of double beds. I-HOP and Dunkin are in the area. We drove to the I-HOP for dinner. Too many wandering people so we didn't feel comfortable walking to the location.

We would stay again We had a very nice day at the Best Western. My husband and adult daughter and I stayed for two nights while waiting for our cruise. Each room had two double beds, which was fine with us. It was clean and it was quiet. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom water was hot. We went to complementary breakfast both mornings in what had been their restaurant. The dining room was huge, the breakfast was varied and delicious. Three waffle stations! Check out time was 11, but our cruise didn't leave till late afternoon so we were allowed to sit in the empty restaurant and play games. Restroom facilities were available to us. They stored our luggage for no fee. Within walking easy distance is a McDonald's, IHOP, Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, the big kahuna, pizza, sushi, Korean barbecue. It was a perfect, inexpensive place to stay between arriving from the airport (free shuttle service) and leaving for our cruise. Lovely pool, lovely courtyard.

Noisy This was a few days stopover and we wanted to visit Pearl Harbour and whale watching. I chose this hotel because it's near the airport, was a good price and is a best western. Have to say I was disappointed. Good points. .. The room was clean and large, the bathroom was clean. WiFi and tv worked well. A good transfer to and from the airport. Comfy bed Bad points... the bath and sink drains were blocked and I mentioned this to housekeeping who pretended to not understand so I left it. The shower had to run for about 5 mins before it became hot and so we were having to stand in the cold water that hadn't drained. The shower was feeble. Air conditioning was very good and the room got very cold, but, it was too noisy to sleep with. It was also very old and not positioned on the wall well. Breakfast was poor. On the second day they had run out of eggs at 8.15am. That's the only thing I wanted so disappointed. The hotel has a bus stop directly outside and it was great to go to Waikiki and Pearl Harbour but it felt unsafe, especially returning on the far side of the road in the dark. There are a few homeless, drug addicts living in that area and I wouldn't recommend it for solo women travellers. The hotel is also next to the highways and at night the traffic was a nightmare. Felt like I was staying in a hotel at the isle of man TT. The motorbike noise was horrendous. All island tours do not pick up from this hotel I think if you just wanted a quick one night airport hotel then this would be alright. I made the mistake of staying 4 nights. Wish I had splashed out more and stayed in city centre, somewhere nicer

Perfect hotel for an overnight layover We had a one night layover in Honolulu. We arrived at 3 AM so there was definitely no sense in driving down to Waikiki. The best Western was less than a five minute ride from the airport, the desk clerk was alert and awake upon our arrival at that early hour, and promptly let us in the front door, which they keep secured at night for security. A week before on our outbound trip we had stayed in Waikiki at the Hawaiian Hilton Village. I found the rooms at the best Western to be nicer, in better repair, and though some reviews have complained about the highway noise, considering that we just needed sleep for a layover, the white noise of the highway was much better than the thumping music and partying tourist noise of Waikiki. The beds were very comfortable, the toiletries provided in the bathroom were quite nice, the rooms have a small coffee bar, refrigerator, and microwave, and the immediate view out my window was of the warehouse area, it was still pretty to be able to see the downtown area in the mountains in the distance. As long as you are not booking this hotel for your vacation, this is a perfect location that I will use in the future when transiting through Honolulu.

Great location for airport proximity This property is extremely well located to the Honolulu airport. We returned our rental car the night before flying out and the BW shuttle service provided us a prompt return to the motel. Front desk staff was professional and the room was exceptionally clean. Our biggest and only complaint was the cooling system in the room. The control was locked and we could not adjust the temperature setting and were quite chilly during the night. We did report this to the front desk staff upon check out.
