Cambria, California: Coastal Village with Art Galleries, Beachfront Hikes, and Elephant Seals

The coastal town of Cambria lies about 10 miles south of San Simeon, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Though the village is small, it has a host of attractions, including 30 art galleries in the downtown area and an oceanfront boardwalk at Moonstone Beach.

Just 11 miles north lies the famed Hearst Castle, the enormous estate that once belonged to newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The building took more than 25 years to complete, has more than 150 elaborate rooms, and houses an astounding collection of Spanish and Italian art and antiques. Tours crisscross the 127-acre estate throughout the day, acquainting visitors with the grand rooms, cottages, kitchens, and libraries.

The cutest place to stay! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and stylish. Loved the elevated deck to sit and watch the sunset and the potential use of the bikes. The breakfast was super perfect for us as we love really good coffee, oatmeal and homemade quick breads. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout that made this a special stay, we will definitely come back!

Time-warp Quirky Retro Motel Across From Beach Well revitalized small lodging on Moonstone Beach. I'm sure it dates back to the golden days of PCH California motoring, but it in a good way--a window back on the past without being stuck in the past. Rooms are small, and redone in a sparse nautical style. The bedding is great. Bath is well redone. Other than the room could use a second chair and a few more hangers I can't complain and enjoyed the stay. If you are doing the coast drive thing it is perfect for a night or two, (but not where I would choose for a long visit). Parking is tight but adequate if everyone cooperates, and they have sensible rules to help. (Pickups and suburbans would need to park out front and not by their room).

Worth the view! Very cute, no frills beachy motel. The room is quite small, but very cozy! Can't beat the location and a sunrise walk along the boardwalk, ten steps from the front of the hotel, is totally worth it! Breakfast is additional amenity charge and in the front lobby. The bath products were AMAZING!

Best spot ever! Perfect spot!! Right across from beach and boardwalk. Clean, cozy room. Wonderful juice, coffee and assorted loaves for breakfast. I really enjoyed the sky deck with chairs and blankets to watch the sunset! Within walking distance to two very fine restaurants. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!!
