Mount Pleasant, South Carolina: Shallow Saltwater Bays and Naval History near Charleston

Situated near downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant boasts a number of shallow bays and creeks. Here, you can find the Patriots Point maritime and naval museum, which houses the USS Yorktown, an antisubmarine aircraft carrier. Visitors can explore the flight deck, engine room, and wardroom of this 888-foot centerpiece, or check out any of 25 eclectic aircraft.

Just across the harbor is Charleston, which you can easily access via the New Cooper River Bridge. There, Georgian mansions line the waterfront, the spires of colonial-era churches punctuate the skyline, and horse-drawn carriages frequently clop along the city's cobblestone streets. National historic landmarks in town include the Battery & White Point Gardens, a living Civil War museum with Confederate cannons and views of Fort Sumter, and the Charleston Harbor.

No complaints! We stayed for a week and had a fantastic time! The hotel was clean, the king room was roomy with a great, unique layout, the location was convenient, and the staff was friendly. We especially loved Sunshine at the front desk, who lived up to her name! She was so friendly and beyond helpful. Her restaurant recommendations were top notch. Would absolutely stay again and recommend to friends.

Some Plusses But Too Many Annoyances Pros: New, modern and very clean. Friendly, efficient check-in process. The non std, king bed suite space was huge. The onsite bar / meal area can do quite pleasing dinner meals eg the steak option. Cons: No in house breakfast other than pre-prepared, extra cost boxed items. Dumb design shower glass wall that wets a large part of the bathroom floor Dumb choice of shower head that also wets a large part of the bathroom floor. Dumb choice of kitchenette sink water faucet that wets so much of the bench space. No exhaust fan or extraction fan in the bathroom. Who designs these new hotels and who signs off on the designs = Someone who is never forced to actually live in their too clever spaces. Only one suitcase placement area. Do only single guests ever stay in such rooms? The basic "kitchenette" is way too basic = a small microwave, a coffee maker, and a very small, non freezer fridge. No plates, no ceramic cups / mugs, no cutlery, no tea towel, no washing up detergent, no washing up cloth. A very noisy, (with lots of vibration) in room HVAC tower / outlet that also shows dumb design / install decisions. The fan speed is either on or off or auto = full air flow always. It makes so much noise even when all is supposedly off. We were in room 230 for 2 nights from 04 Nov. Is this normal? Very hard and slow then to get the room temp down to a bit less less than 70 F. The windows cannot be opened; so where does any fresh air come from? Poor design choices of room lighting fixtures too eg the silly floor light stand in the main space and the too bright and too large, desk light. Glad then that we only stayed the 2 nights. 3.5 stars really.
