Davis, West Virginia: Gorgeous Allegheny Scenery and Year-Round Recreation

USA Today called Davis a “little-known gem in the rough,” and it’s easy to see why. In the winter, the town at the edge of Monogahela National Forest beckons skiers with some of the longest ski runs in the eastern United States. For those interested in experiencing the gorgeous landscape sans downhill thrills, there’s cross-country skiing at Blackwater Falls State Park’s Sled Run & Cross Country Ski Center, which is open through the middle of March.

You’ll find more than just cross-country skiing Inside the nearby Blackwater Falls State Park, though, especially in the warmer months. The park is home to an eponymous, 62-foot waterfall that’s a West Virginia icon, as well as the fisher-friendly Blackwater RIver. Visitors can also explore the Davis’ rugged foothills on hikes, cycling excursions, and horseback rides.
