Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún's Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it's a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun.

3. Will I be approached to attend a timeshare sales presentation? Customers are never obligated to attend a sales presentation. If you are approached and decline a presentation, you will not lose the value of your voucher or have to pay additional fees.

5. Are dinner reservations required for restaurants? We had an incredible time. The food is delicious, the reservations are a little annoying but we are at the buffet most of the time since that worked best for our kids and we really enjoyed all the food stations. Our room was clean and comfortable, we really would have liked the private pool to be warmer but it makes sense they don’t have heaters in Mexico. The entertainment was fun. Great place.

First but not last at Catalonia So much to say… First: the service. It is outstanding all personal is very kind, welcoming and friendly. I would like to tip my hat to 3 people in particular: Rosario: made our room (3222) to perfection; taking care of every details every single day. Thank you for your dedication! Roberto: waited on us at the Gran Caribe for a number of dinners. He is genuinely kind; what a gentleman! Thank you so much. Rabssad: great service at the Lobby bar; this young fellow showed genuine interest in his clients. Top service, very professional! The food is very high quality (I recommend trying Memories), the cleanliness of the resort. The beach is cleaned daily. Seriously; stop reading this review and reserve ASAP!!! Andre, Claudia & Family

A really great stay but a quick warning. We (a couple) just finished an 8 day stay at the Catalonia. We very much enjoyed our stay and are happy to give a 5 star review. The food overall was really great. The buffet had amazing choices and was flavourful. We enjoyed the Beloved restaurant, the Japanese plus the Grill (2×) and Mama Mia (2×). All were excellent. The "food court" for lunch was a great idea and really good. Surprisingly, the Mexican restaurant was not great. The beach and pools were awesome. We also had a swimout room with a great patio and made good use of that! Overall, it was an excellent visit to a great resort. A WARNING! When we checked in, I was solicited for a tip to upgrade our room. I gave what I thought a generous trip, thinking I would get a romance room or some other upgrade. I "tipped" $30 USD cash, which quickly disappeared from the counter, and I got the exact same room that I was assigned in pre-checkin online. Disappointing and the management should be aware of this scam.

Excellent Didier is the Best chef !!! I recommend going to the Japanese restaurant. Good job. We enjoyed it very much. Meal was good ! The best meal we had in our trip to Catalonia. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
