Hotel at a Glance: Chautauqua Resort & Conference Center

Chautauqua Resort & Conference Center was named after a Native American phrase that means “a place where the fish was taken out.” It's a nod to Long Beach’s fishing culture, which permeates the old-fashioned beachside hotel. Each guest room faces the sea and has a patio where you can soak in the Pacific sunset. For more room, choose a standard or deluxe suite, which includes a dining area and a kitchenette with a balcony or patio.

  • Stay connected with complimentary WiFi and cable TV.
  • Take a dip in the indoor heated pool.
  • Room with a view: sit back and relax on a patio overlooking the ocean.
  • Beach access: Chautauqua Resort & Conference Center sits just steps from the beach, with easy access to Lewis and Clark's Discovery Trail, which connects Long Beach to nearby Cape Disappointment.

Long Beach, Washington: Clams, Kites, and Cranberries on the Pacific Coast

About 115 miles northwest of Portland, 28 miles of uninterrupted shoreline stretches across the Long Beach Peninsula. Crowds flock to the area all year—even in the winter months, when average temperatures are in the 40s. The main draw during that part of the year is clamming. On certain government-approved dates, you can take to the sands to dig for fresh razor clams, which locals enjoy battered and fried in butter.

Come spring, warmer weather brings out swarms of colorful kites. Kite flying is something of an obsession in Long Beach. The town is home to an annual kite festival as well as the World Kite Museum, dedicated to the art, history, and science of kite making. Another local obsession is cranberries—their bright-red bogs line the coast from Oregon to British Columbia. At the Pacific Coast Cranberry Museum in Long Beach, you can learn about the history of cranberry farming and tour a bog.

Best Hotel/Rental Experience Ever We were in Long Beach for Sandsations, the yearly sand sculpture building event on the Long Beach beachfront. We stayed on the 3rd floor, Rm 310 and loved it! Most if not all of the rooms (condo units) are owned by different owners, not every room/unit is decorated or outfitted the same. The unit we stayed in was perfectly outfitted, with huge TVs in the living room and bedroom. The kitchen had everything we needed pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. The only thing we needed, was a 2nd wineglass, but I went down to the Front Desk, and they were happy supply me with one. Other than that, there was nothing we needed that was not supplied. The room layout was different than we had ever encountered, with the bedroom at the back, but this meant the Living Room had a wide-open view of the dunes and the beach. My only small complaint is the wi-fi signal in our unit was weak, (3 bars) and almost unusable in the bedroom, (1 bar). I could still access the internet and keep up with emails, etc. in the living room & kitchen/dining area, so it was not an inconvenience, just something that surprised me in this day and age where wi-fi extenders and upgraded wi-fi routers are so inexpensive. Previous posts have mentioned there is no A/C, this true. Most times of the year in Long Beach A/C is not needed. Only in the late afternoon on our 2nd day with sun out and beating right onto the deck and Living Room sliding door it got pretty warm inside. If we had A/C we would have used it... The pool looked great, we did not actually use it, but there was always some kids and adults using it during the open hours. We also did not take advantage of the included free breakfast so cannot comment on how good it was.

Weekend stay, April 2024 Pros: nice location just outside of town, walking paths to the ocean with beautiful views, dog friendly, nice outdoor patio with gas fireplace and chairs. Cons: room was very outdated, dirty (needs a serious deep clean), hair dryer was broken and the front desk didn’t have any spares, continental breakfast was mediocre at best, staff weren’t overly friendly or accommodating. This hotel is in a nice location, but for $200/night we won’t be staying here again due to how outdated and dirty our room was. Their website was misleading, as it shows photos of remodeled and/or nice, clean-looking rooms. The room we stayed in does not compare to the website photos.

Not Family Friendly! They advertise having a hot tub, but once you try and use it with your family, anyone under 18 will be told they can't use it! Can you imagine paying HOA fees in a facility your family can't fully utilize! This hotel is seriously dated, smells bad, and staff are aweful!
