Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: Family-Friendly Attractions and Outdoor Activities in the Great Smoky Mountains

Though it’s secluded in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge is home to some quirky destinations, including Dollywood, a Titanic museum that looks just like the famed ocean liner from the outside, and an interactive children’s museum housed in an upside-down three-story building. But the top draw is, of course, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located roughly 10 miles south of Pigeon Forge. You can hike along more than 800 miles of trails that lead past waterfalls and pioneer-era log cabins. One of the best places to catch a glowing sunset is Clingmans Dome, the park’s highest point of elevation at 6,600 feet.

In Pigeon Forge’s historical town center, a cluster of old-fashioned specialty shops and restaurants forms the Old Mill Square along the Little Pigeon River. Inside the mill, a pair of 4,600-pound granite stones has been grinding grain since the early 1800s. Another nearby attraction is Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, located a few miles down the road in Gatlinburg. Here, exotic stingrays and four-eyed Anableps swim with other sea creatures beneath a backlit waterfall. At the shark lagoon, you can stand inside an enclosed glass tunnel to get an up-close view of green eels, sand tiger sharks, and sea turtles.

Motel 6 is Better First I would like to start off that I am Wyndham vacation club member and I don’t ever plan on staying here again. The motel 6’s along the road were looking were even looking a lot better. We stayed in a one bedroom “suite“. The term “suite“ is used very loosely here. The room is super tiny, with no balcony and bad lighting. It was a very odd layout with the bathroom right off of the kitchen. There was only one mirror and the entire room and that was in the bathroom. The room definitely did not feel clean, especially the shower. There were ants, crawling all over the sink in the bathroom. The walls are paper thin and you can hear the other guests in the neighboring rooms. For a resort this large there are two tiny pools. It is filled with kids and not enough parent supervision. The pools definitely did not feel clean either. There was gunk and hair floating everywhere. Super disappointed, especially considering that we are vacation club members. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Resort = Good / Area = Bad the Property: I'll give it a 4 for being perfectly average. The room was spacious, but a bit beat up. Bathrooms needed some Love. the resort pools were too small for the size of the resort. The staff was friendly and helpful (one of our mattresses was basically collapsed and the promptly bought a new on into the space). The surrounding area, Not a fan! SOOOOOO CROWDED.. like ridiculously crowded.. worse than times square! As bad as trying to get out of Main St. USA at Disney world at the end of the night. not what I anticipated for a Mountain resort.

Very rude, it wasn’t even time to check out yet, other than that and the BIG roach in the kitchen cabinet it was a good trip
