Savannah, Georgia: Historical Mansions and a Lively River Walk

Founded in 1733 as Georgia’s first town, Savannah is not only one of the most graceful cities in the South but also one the most historic. The old but well-preserved architecture landed it on Forbes’s 2011 list of America’s Best Downtowns, and Travel + Leisure dubbed it one of the top cities in the United States and Canada in 2013. The city’s 22 famous public squares play host to some famous landmarks, such as antebellum-era houses framed by moss-covered oak trees. Head to Oglethorpe Square to see the Owens-Thomas House, an English Regency–style mansion completed in 1819 that now serves as a museum; tours here depart from the original carriage house and go past its charming English-style parterre garden.

Another relic of Savannah’s past, River Street curves for about a mile along Savannah River’s south bank. The cobblestone walkways are lined with 100-year-old cotton warehouses that have been converted into antique shops, brewpubs, and galleries. A short walk west of River Street will take you to the City Market, a four-block public meeting space on the edge of downtown.

Our door would not lock,so we had to switch rooms. We had two queens. The staff was pleasant except for one young lady at the front desk who shouldn’t have a customer service position.

Great Place to stay in Savannah The staff goes above board here, everyone was wonderful to work with. Quite hotel, good breakfast, close to shopping and restaurants, you couldn't ask for more. Short drive to the Savannah visitors center and railway museum. Park at the GA Railroad museum (gates close at 4pm) and walk to visitors center.

Needs a new cleaning crew. This hotel needs some attention and a new cleaning crew. Immediately upon entering noticed that the bathroom is not clean. There was hair in the bathtub. The sink was dirty and also had hair in it. The underside of the toilet seat and the rim is dirty. Something spilled on the bathroom floor that wasn’t cleaned up. Someone wrote their name on the mirror and it could be seen after a running the shower. When we turned the lights on, we could see food on the floor in the corner of the room and in random places around the room. Floors obviously not cleaned between guests. Pubic hair? on the top blanket of the bed was noticed when pulling it off the bed. The windows have kid handprints all over the already unclean glass. We received a text upon check-in stating to notify them if we needed anything. I sent photos of the issues. Response stated that a front desk clerk would be with us shortly and 2 hrs later, still no response from the desk. Expecting a refund or a large discount.

Would stay again Clean, large room, fluffy pillows, no rugs and that’s a big plus. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast in spacious dinning area. Nice indoor pool and jacuzzi if you have the time. Walking distance to several restaurants.
