Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Please know that I never ever do a review, but I couldn’t not in this instance.  Myself and my husband recently visited Atlantic City for the first time in order to celebrate our wedding anniversary and his birthday. Our trip started on Monday of Labor Day and extended until Thursday. Our reservations were booked via Groupon. Because of availability our first night was spent at another hotel which we had a mehhh experience. However, I was excited to move over to the Marriott to spend the remainder of our trip. Because check in does not start until 4pm we intended to spend the day on the beach. Having spent the prior day on the beach we anticipated no issues with this plan and proceeded to haul ourselves about a half mile away from the area we were the previous day due to no umbrella and lounge rentals being open being it the day after Labor Day. We finally found a renal spot and set up, my husband intending to get me situated and then head off to get a massage and move our vehicle from the prior hotel to the Marriott in the process. Low and behold we were immediately overtaken by biting flys and no matter where we moved our chairs or how much bug spray or citronella wrist bands I put on was I able to find reprieve from this Lord of the Flys experience. My husband being the good man that he is could not leave me in this state while he went off to enjoy, what he thought would be a relaxing massage (that is a whole other story in itself let’s just say you should always be clear that you want a standard massage with no extras when booking at a massage place that asks for cash only….or maybe just stick with the cassino spas to be safe ) I digress….so he called the Marriott at what was about 11 am to find out if he could check us in early, figuring he would get me checked in and lounging by the pool with my book for the day. We were super excited to be told that yes we could absolutely check in early!! Win one for the Marriott!! When we get to the hotel about 10 mins later we were immediately checked and and sadly discovered that there was in fact no pool at this location. However, the lovely woman at the front desk Terria proceeded to advice us of another resort that we could purchase a day pass at and enjoy their pool which her daughter works at. We took her advise for the following day and booked a cabana for the day and not only thoroughly enjoyed our day relaxing by the pool but Terria even let her daughter Nana know we were coming as she was sure to check on us during our visit. Please know that we were greatly impressed and delighted by your staff and this has solidified my allegiance to the Marriott brand.  Grateful customer

They need some improvements Hotel overall was OK. But please tell me why there was 1/2 roll of toilet paper and when we called for more at 7am were told that housekeeping doesn't arrive until 9am. We were checking out at 9. You mean no one could just bring that simple item? We weren't asking for anything major. Had to put on clothes and retrieve from the front desk. Our friends across the hall had a TV that didn't work and we're moved to another room. Early the next morning they got a call to see if they needed a TV repair. Staff was confused when they said no, they had moved to a new room. So all in all, poor service.

THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOU If I can give negative stars I would. Let me start with the fact that only one elevator was working the wait for the elevators was very long and then crowded. Then the AC would not work and no sign explaining how to use thermostat, so we called, and they helped us finally. Now to top it off the staff at this hotel does not care about your safety or privacy. They allowed a person to call our room just by asking for the last name and saying they were looking for their brother. Once we answered the call if a crazed fan, we immediately called the front desk and asked why they would transfer anyone to our room. They said the reservation did not state otherwise. Why would I ever have to state this? We asked for a refund and said our safety was compromised and we were checking out at 2 am. When we then proceeded to the lobby for the refund, we noticed a female sitting on the lobby. After a few minutes we realized it was the same stalker and advised them to call the police. The manger Andrew did not do anything but pass blame and excuses, He stated she should not have been in lobby at that hour unless she was staying there! She was not a hotel guest at all. He said we should have told the hotel not to confirm we are there. These rules are not ok. This hotel is a franchise and make up their own rules beware.

Its location is a major plus, offering easy access to the beach and casinos. Rooms are clean and comfortable, though perhaps a bit standard for the price point. The staff is generally friendly and helpful. While it may lack some of the bells and whistles of higher-end hotels, it's a reliable option for those prioritizing location and a comfortable stay. A good choice for a no-frills beach getaway.
