Manhattan’s Upper East Side: Star-Studded Neighborhood Close to Central Park and Museums

Celebrities, politicians, and some of New York’s wealthiest denizens make their homes in the Upper East Side, which ranks among the most affluent neighborhoods in Manhattan (property values here have the highest pricing per square foot in the United States). Located just minutes from Central Park and the Theater District, the picturesque neighborhood has served as the backdrop for a litany of films and television shows, from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Woody Allen’s Manhattan.

The western edge of the Upper East Side abuts Central Park and the “Museum Mile,” a stretch of cultural institutions on Fifth Avenue anchored by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the largest art galleries in the world. With more than 2 million works on display, you’ll have to spend your time there wisely—check out Time Out New York’s list of “10 Must-See Works” for a handy reference. Nine other museums fill out the Museum Mile, most notably the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Guggenheim art museum and The Africa Center, the first addition to Museum Mile since 1959.

Very clean, excellent service at front desk. Within walking distance of 96th St. Subway station. Used the gym and steam room on the lower level, will be staying here again when we visit.

Exactly what my family was looking for Are you looking for an unpretentious hotel in a residential area outside the hustle and bustle of Midtown? Are you comfortable using the MTA bus system? If so, this hotel is a very good choice. The M86 Select Bus will get you quickly to the subway and across town. The M31 will take you directly to Midtown and 57th Street. Both regularly stop right outside the hotel. Need to get to/from Times Square even faster? A station entrance for the express Q train is at 94th and 2nd, less than 0.3 miles away. Plus the hotel was quiet, the room was reasonably sized for New York City, there are good local restaurants nearby, and a deli around the corner open until 1 am. What more do you need?

Worse than average We recently stayed two nights here, and the experience has bern very average to a bit on the poor side. Pros: 1) there is a grocery store right next door that opens until 10pm that sells water and fresh fruits and everything else in between. 2) Quite a few restaurants within walking distance 3) Microwave and fridge in the room Cons: 1) no subway station nearby. I believe that the nearest one is about 15 minute walk; 2) the room is very small; safe was not working and the USB port was not working either 3) no food services 4) bathroom is also very small. One can barely turn around and the shower pressure could use some more pressure. This is worse than most other Courtyards I have stayed at.

Beware of the courtyard. Just a dump, air conditioning doesn’t work well, just looks dingy and dirty. Hair in the tub. We stayed one night and we moved to a better hotel. It just depends on what you’re looking for but there many other options besides this place. Quite frankly I’m surprised to see the Marriott name attached to this place.
