Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Tropical Paradise with Cosmopolitan Flair

Puerto Vallarta is perhaps Mexico’s most sophisticated vacation destination, with expansive beaches, trendy restaurants, and cobblestone streets leading to beautifully preserved 19th-century churches. A 16-block boardwalk known as the malecón offers unobstructed ocean views as it extends from the city center, past fountains and a famous 9-foot-high statue of a boy riding a seahorse.

Called “the most gay-friendly city in Mexico” by Frommer’s, Vallarta draws a diverse crowd of vacationers intent on relaxing during the day and living it up at night, bouncing between the city’s numerous dance clubs. For a glimpse of the city’s history, head to Viejo Vallarta, also known as Old Town, where artists peddle shawls and piñatas and mariachi bands serenade couples dancing on Plaza Principal.

Stay at Crown Paradise Club It's not a five star hotel and advertisement make it look like it is. Was not impressed by my room, very basic. Over all I had a nice time while I was there. Making reservations was difficult to get in restaurant. Children should not be servicing themselves. They put hands in food.

Please read reviews before booking Was very dissatisfied upon arrival. I travel to Mexico often and this resort had the least amount of security. Checking in wasn’t welcoming at all. Got to the room, furniture was stained and outdated. Had to switch rooms twice. Once switched to a decent room felt like I was pulling teeth to get clean sheets. Had to go complain to manager showing pictures of the brown stains all over the sheets. Was put in a standard room the next day. I was finally comfortable. No poolside service, not much variety at the buffet, make sure you schedule early for the restaurant’s, and room service doesn’t exist. They ignore the phone. So make sure you eat before everything closes. The only thing that went smoothly was the check out process.
