Daytona Beach, Florida: Racing Legacy and a Famed Lighthouse

Hundreds of thousands of racing fans visit Daytona International Speedway each year to watch world-class champions such as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon. Stock-car, sports-car, and motorcycle events round out the calendar all year, highlighted by the Daytona 500 in February—the first race of the Sprint Cup Series and typically regarded as the most prestigious. On various behind-the-scenes tours, you can explore the speedway’s elevated press boxes, banked infield turns, and decadent hot tubs filled with motor oil.

At Daytona Beach itself, cars toting beach gear roll across the hard-packed sand through oceanfront driving zones; there are also traffic-free areas. South of town, you can see the Ponce de León Inlet Lighthouse. There, a spiral staircase winds up to the top of a 175-foot tower, where you can overlook a 52-acre park filled with armadillos, shore birds, and native wildflowers.

Disappointed Hilton Honors member Apparently your Hilton status means little here. Got in after 1am due to flight delay. Assigned a room on second floor. Woke early to hammers, saws and general construction noise outside my window. There was no notice or mention of any construction when I booked. Won't be back here anytime soon. - Hilton Diamond member

Worst Ever! As we continued to celebrate our daughter's 25th birthday, we took what was supposed to be a week long road trip to this resort. We requested a oceanfront or ocean view room and was told they couldn't guarantee but it shouldn't be a problem. Our view was of a parking garage! We rquested another room and was given a room overlooking for checkin parking lot. We were told by Trevor upon checkin, we'd receive a text throughout our stay to check on us. We did not. We requested face towels the first night and they were never brought to us. The icing on the cake was 2 days into our stay. Upon awakening to loud noises from window, we look from bed to see a window cleaner person at our bedroom window. When we spoke to the Manager, Tracey, we were told notices were posted on front desk. We asked her why weren't notices posted where we frequent every day "the elevator" and Tracey stated that was against Hilton policy. We are timeshare owners and Hilton honor members. We left after 3 nights. Tracey did offer a credit of the daily resort fee, but the outdated room, dingy carpet, noisy dumpster and garage across the street, the window cleaning person at our bedroom window and the constant stress of having to contact management was too much. This was by far one of the worst vacations in a Hilton we've ever experienced.

Good value in area Stayed at this property for several days. Building layout is dated, it is a renovated property. Hallways are fresh and up to date. Booked studio. Room was clean. Bathroom had ample space and decent layout. Kitchen is functional and equipped with common items but a little cramped. Good size tub, open in the bedroom (nice for couples, maybe not for a family). Closet was functional but houses the AC unit. Room had nice large windows however most face the side of the building. You can see a little bit of the beach if you try hard. Pool is nice as is hot tub. Poolside bar is a highlight. Staff is warm and friendly, drinks are reasonably priced and poured generously. There is prepackaged food in a glass refrigerator but there are much better options within walking distance. Beachside access from the pool deck. Front desk staff was a miss. Most of the staff was fine but checkin was an unpleasant experience due to one particular staff member who seemed bothered and annoyed. I can’t hold it against the entire property but staff that is rude when you say hello just isn’t acceptable. Actually walked away during the interaction to work with a other staff member at the front desk. I would return here again. Value and location are good.
