The Colony, Texas: Happy-Go-Lucky Business Town Near Dallas

For a medium-size suburb of Dallas, Plano sure receives a lot of attention from the financial press. CNN Money has dubbed it the 11th best place to live in the United States, and Forbes named it America’s safest city. Peace and prosperity seem to go hand in hand in Plano, which serves as headquarters for some of the nation’s largest companies, including Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, J.C. Penney, and Pizza Hut.

But it’s not all about work here. Fashion comes first at The Shops at Legacy and at Stonebriar Centre, sprawling, pedestrian-oriented shopping centers with high-end designer stores and upscale restaurants. There are also two huge green spaces in town: Bob Woodruff Park and Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. Connected by biking trails, they form a total area larger than Central Park in Manhattan. For sports fans, the nearby city of Frisco offers professional soccer at Toyota Stadium and minor-league baseball at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

Horrible Management I am a local resident who booked a room for a Valentine’s getaway with my husband to have some quiet time away from the kids. Unfortunately, our stay was completely ruined as the hotel was hosting several youth soccer teams. Kids were staying alone in rooms without any coaches, causing significant noise and disruption. They were running and screaming up and down the halls at all hours. I called the front desk multiple times at night, and the noise finally stopped around midnight, but it started again at 7 AM the next morning. We were so disappointed. At checkout, I expressed my dissatisfaction and was given the contact information for Ivette Tijerino, the Complex Director of Sales. I emailed her, and she promised that Marriott Bonvoy points would be added to my account within 10 days as compensation. It has now been far longer than that, and I have yet to receive the points or any further communication from Ms. Tijerino. As someone who travels often for work and always stays at Marriott, I am highly disappointed in the level of customer service I have received. I do not recommend this property to anyone.

Cleanliness I came here on a business trip. I was exhausted after a full day and woke up the next morning, pulled the bed spread up to ensure I didn't leave anything in the sheets and saw a fresh blood spot that wasn't from me. They never changed the sheets, disgusting. I reported it first thing in the morning.

Poor Front Desk Customer Services I booked a room through a Travelocity at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Dallas Plano/The Colony on Saturday May 18, 2024. When I arrived at the hotel, I checked in with the front desk rep Jennifer. I said to her “every time I check into a hotel my room is always by the elevator”. Jennifer stated yeah that is because you booked with a third party and we do not like third parties. I looked up at her and said I do not always use a third party to book my hotel rooms. Can you please make sure I am not next to the elevator. Jennifer stated your room is not next to the elevator and if it is come back down to the front desk and I will move you. I was in a rush to get to my family and friends so I did not have time to go back and forth with Jennifer and the way she was talking to me as if because I am getting the room and a cheaper rate I should accept whatever room I get. When I got off the elevator, I immediately notice my room was in fact next to the elevator. Again I was too busy and didn’t want to be labeled as the angry black woman that booked on a third party app, because I can’t afford the rate without going through a third party. The next day when I checked out of the room, I explained to Alisha at the front desk what happen. She apologized for Jennifer’s behavior. Alisha stated that it should not matter how the guest booked their rooms. If we request not to be put in a room they can look in the computer to ensure that they are not in a room near the elevator or etc. if the rooms are available. I always stay at a Marriott hotel branch but after this experience. I need to look in to other options if I am going to be treated a certain way if I book through a third party. It should not be offered if the guest are going to be treated different. I hope that I do not have to deal with this ever again and if that is the true case. Marriott should look into other options to book their rooms to the public.
