Miami's South Beach: World-Famous Nightlife and Beaches

Just east of downtown Miami, on the barrier island that forms Miami Beach, you'll find one of the world's nightlife capitals: South Beach. The clubs along Ocean Drive are legendary for their boisterous, all-night blowouts—and for good reason. With all the rum-soaked mojitos, colorful neon, and celebrity sightings, it can feel like an endless party. Perhaps that's why the area pops up so often in film and TV shows, including Burn Notice and _The Birdcage_.

The coast of South Beach is known as Lummus Park, which Frommer's calls Miami's "best beach for people-watching." Head across the bay, to South Pointe Park or Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, for quieter, more secluded shores.

Friends trip Small sized room with basic amenities. The location was excellent if you want to be near plenty of activities, the beach and people. We enjoyed several local restaurants within walking distance. The hotel food was great. Things were expensive, but it was expected in the Miami area. Beach towels were provided by the hotel. There was no workout room, and I didn't use the pool. The location definitely is loud so if you need quietness for sleep, this would not be the location.

Here’s a review based on your experience: Disappointing Stay at the Fairwind Hotel Our experience at the Fairwind Hotel in Miami Beach was unfortunately far below expectations. We arrived well before check-in at 11:30 am, fully aware that check-in time was 4 pm. Upon arrival, we encountered a male front desk staff member who seemed entirely uninterested in providing any sort of hospitality. When we politely asked if there might be a chance to check in early or if any rooms were available, he simply responded with a dismissive “4 pm is check-in, and oh well,” without even checking for available rooms. His attitude was both dismissive and unprofessional. In contrast, a female front desk staff member was more empathetic and at least apologized, showing some level of customer service. Additionally, we were informed that the main elevator was out of order, but that another one by the bar was operational. However, when we tried to use it, we found that it was also out of service. This was just the beginning of the property’s disarray. The entire hotel seemed poorly maintained and dirty, with cockroaches visible both in the lobby and around the restaurant/bar area. The staff at the hotel’s bar and restaurant were also unwelcoming and made it clear that they were not affiliated with the hotel, though the lack of basic courtesy was very apparent. Finally, when we expressed our concerns, the manager on duty was not only unhelpful but outright rude and apathetic, adding to an overall negative impression. The Fairwind Hotel clearly needs serious improvement in both property upkeep and customer service standards. Based on this experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Great location Beware of hidden fees!! We had such a lovely stay at the hotel. Enjoyed the food and drinks at the restaurant. A great location. However!! When home I was charged £63 & £33 (2 rooms were booked) no mention of this when we checked out. When queried it’s was a charge due to marks on the bed sheets and towels. It’s laughable as this would all come out in the wash. Pictures were taken by house keeping during our stay which I find quite unsettling. They informed me that all linen was destroyed when I asked to see proof that it didn’t wash off. Funny that! There environmental impact must be massive. I understand the security deposit if you damage anything but come on. You paid to stay in room for these services. But they charge you again for a service that should be included. Check they wouldn’t charge you anything before leaving. Never been anywhere like this before and will not be coming again. Which is a shame.

Ripped off on so called location tax. They charge $34 for a service charge. This is to cover coffee in the room and pool towels. We arrived after 1700 and check out was 1100 the next day. Not much time to use the pool. The room had enough makings for 2 cups of coffee. Water and beer in the so called minibar, was over priced.

Would stay at Fairwind again! Large, open room with large bathroom, including oval bathtub! Very chic, modern, and quiet! Enjoyed sitting on balcony, even though close to next building overlooking tops of palm trees. Could see the pool on 5th floor (we were on 3rd). Very pleasant personnel. Convenient restaurant out front with entertainment, good food and drinks. Only a block from Ocean Drive. Convenient garage across the street and several breakfast venues nearby, including famous 11th Street Diner. Loved our stay.
