Cambria, California: Coastal Village with Art Galleries, Beachfront Hikes, and Elephant Seals

The coastal town of Cambria lies about 10 miles south of San Simeon, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Though the village is small, it has a host of attractions, including 30 art galleries in the downtown area and an oceanfront boardwalk at Moonstone Beach.

Just 11 miles north lies the famed Hearst Castle, the enormous estate that once belonged to newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The building took more than 25 years to complete, has more than 150 elaborate rooms, and houses an astounding collection of Spanish and Italian art and antiques. Location is wonderful. Walk to nearby restaurant, moonstone bar and grill or across the street to watch a beautiful sunset. Love all the hummingbirds and the boardwalk is less than 100 yards away.

Brief visit in Cambria Stayed here for 2 week nights. Convenient location. Room was clean, cleaning is only offered if you ask the day before. That didn’t matter to us because we didn’t need it, and plenty of towels r provided. Walls are thin, could hear entire conversation in next room. Also paid for partial ocean view, IMO that was a waste of money the view was just too partial because u had look out over the cars parked in front of the room.

Fireside Best hotel on our trip down the Pacific Coast Highway! BIG room and VERY clean! Linens and bed were VERY comfortable. Loved the fireplace in our room! Walked across the street to the boardwalk on the coast to watch the sunset and again in the morning with our coffee. Wished we had planned to stay longer. I would definitely go back and highly recommend staying here!

Lovely little place right next to the beach Great little hotel right next to the beach. Rooms are well kept and recently renovated in a modern light style. Cozy with a nice fireplace. Just next to the board walk for some fresh air and restaurants nearby. Staff generally very good - one person on reception was quite rude, but all others very nice so will just ignore her less than welcoming approach.
