North Conway, New Hampshire: Historical Town amid the White Mountains

Idyllic North Conway was established in the foothills of the White Mountains in 1765. It’s home to the region’s highest peak, Mount Washington, which tops out at 6,288 feet. Climb aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad to see the surrounding countryside and rolling White Mountains. It’s also worth exploring the railroad’s carefully preserved North Conway train station, a National Historic Landmark that opened in 1874.

This swath of New England is perhaps best known for its downhill skiing. At Cranmore Mountain Resort, skiers glide down 57 trails and snowboarders catch air in numerous terrain parks. At the base of the mountain, there’s a tubing park with 10 lanes and a convenient tow lift. Snow tubing is a big hit at Cranmore on weekends.

The service and hospitality of the staff was first-rate. The location was also wonderful, close to the main street of North Conway but away from the noise. It was incredibly clean and the housekeeper came in daily to change the towels and make the beds. It did need some updating but I was told that was in the works. The kitchen space was almost unworkable but that also is being evaluated. I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the North Conway area that wants some privacy and kitchen facilities.

Never Knew This Hotel Was There, Happy To Now Know!!! I have been going to North Conway for well over 20 years. Never knew about this property. Tucked away, back from the noise, quiet and serine. Very clean room, kitchen appliances made it VERY convenient. Great friendly staff made us feel welcome. Will come back!

Leaf Peepers · Lack of decor and quality of furniture was poor with delimitation on the dresser and the nightstands. One headboard in the room had fallen to the floor without support. No paintings/artwork on the walls in the room and left with holes in the walls where assumed painting should have been. Needed new beds and pillows. Running a youth hostel in the basement without a mention to customers. When booking the room, the description describe being in town, which was not true. No coffee maker in the room, they provided coffee down stairs after 7:00 a.m. if lucky and no closet to hang clothing. The dresser drawers stick and did operate properly. For the price this was not a bargain. No elevator to take luggage up two flights of stairs. Very dissatisfied. I’ve have traveled extensively and was this stay would rate a 4 out of 10. The establishment was at the end of a street and very quite at night, which was a plus. But the minuses out weight the pluses.

Not what I thought.. Unfortunately we were looking forward to our yearly visit to north Conway, and love trying new places. Surprisingly this place got decent reviews, but I would like to know what they consider good. For starter the room smelled profusely of smoke. When we lifted Murphy bed down there were pastry wrappers behind bed and Barbie doll boxes behind the couch. As if that weren't enough the stain in the bathroom tiles and slugging ceiling tiles were pretty much final things that told us appearance to this company wasn't a major concern to them. Unfortunately our stay was during Columbus day weekend and we had little options. As for us we will never be going back, my advise if there is absolutely nothing available maybe as a last resort only if you plan on being out of the place 23 hours of the day.
