Manhattan's Midtown West: Edgy, Urban Vibe with Lots of Restaurants

Though it's a stone's throw from top attractions such as Central Park, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall, Midtown West can feel a little grittier and less developed than some of the surrounding NYC neighborhoods. Stretching roughly from 59th to 29th Street and the Hudson River to 8th Avenue (though some say it continues as far east as Madison Avenue), Midtown West lacks the chain restaurants of Times Square and the large department stores of 5th Avenue. Instead, you can find neighborhood markets, cafes, and walk-up row houses.

Midtown West is also known as Hell's Kitchen, a nod to the numerous restaurants that serve everything from Asian street food to fine French cuisine. The neighborhood's eateries and bars are especially concentrated along 9th and 10th Avenues, and it's easy to walk between them all.

If you don't need the Marriott points, go look somewhere else I felt very welcomed at reception. Nice people that also liked some fun. I got a room on the 5th floor. When entering the heat was full on, so I turned it off and tried to open a window, but that wasn't possible. Maybe also good because the outside noise is, well,..it is New York (Noise is always loud, There are sirens all around..) The walls and window aren't very noise isolated, so bring your ear plugs. The bed is good. The sheet gives electrical sparks (very funny in the dark), and it results that you get a small electric shock when touching something metal after getting out of the bed. The heater makes a lot of noise, so you want it to heat and then shut down when going to bed and turning it on again when getting awake. So be prepared for a few shocks. The second day, the heater didn't work. Also the shower didn't have hot water. It was an outage the whole hotel suffered. Many received a $20 breakfast compensation at the place next door (as the restaurant was closed for breakfast and dinner during all days(no clue why)). I didn't get the voucher at first (as I thought it didn't make sense to report it as well), but it felt a bit unfair so I asked for it later, but got a lot more trouble to get the compensation. The next day I wanted to take a shower, as it was fixed, but after 5 minutes waiting and feeling the running water, it was still cold. So I had to clean myself in a different way. 30 minutes later there was hot water again, but I was already dressed. The invoice wasn't easy as well. They would send it by mail. As I didn't trust it, I asked for a paper copy and noticed a wrong address on it. I wrote down the correction and they would send it by mail. As 5 hours later I still didn't get it I spelled out my email address again and they would send it. The next day I still had nothing and called them again. Instead of giving my email, I asked which email they had in the system....Nothing!!! So I gave my email address again and now I got 5 mails, all with the same folio, only with different numbers. And...still the incorrect address. And the amount on my credit card reservation was higher than the amount on the invoice. That is very inconvenient as well, but it was corrected later. So my recommendation, if you look for a hotel and don't need to be close to the Hudson Yard and don't need the Marriott points, go look somewhere else. Maybe a family owned hotel if these are still around instead of such one where, although the people are friendly and nice, they apparently don't care much that things go right.

Doing the expected, unexpectedly! Shout out to Joel at the front desk! After a long trip up to the city, Joel patiently greeted my family and our extended family and helped get us checked in. He made changes to rooms, wrote out vouchers, and helped with directions. Although it sounds like this is to be expected, Joel managed to add the extra care that made the experience laughable and efficient. Little things make a difference. Thank you for helping get us settled. Happy holidays to Joel and the Four Points team. Outstanding service and genuine caring.

Great Service Great Room Great Location Although our first allocated room was not suitable, owing to noisy air conditioning, the reception didn’t hesitate to change our room to one on the 17th floor. It was a great size en suit double, clean and stylish with an amazing view. The bar restaurant was also of a very good standard. The service throughout our stay was very good. Location between Hudson Yard and Maddison Square was perfect walking for us only a few mins.
