Resort at a Glance: GR Caribe Cancun

GR Caribe By Solaris was modeled on elaborate palaces. Arched windows overlaid with intricate ironwork are cut into white stucco walls, and colonnaded porticos lead to open-air courtyards such as the Plaza Zeferino, an extension of the lobby bar. Though the Mediterranean-style retreat is located in the heart of Cancún’s spring-break-friendly hotel zone, its décor is elegant, its mood serene.

Which is not to say the resort is stuffy: it keeps guests busy with dance classes, magic shows, and a private marina stocked with kayaks, paddleboats, and windsurfing equipment. A supervised kids' club at the GR Caribe's sister hotel—the Royal Solaris Cancun located just next door—entertains youngsters with a mini water park, outdoor games, and craft projects .

  • Direct beach access: From this hotel’s doors, it’s only a short trek to the private beach.
  • Make a splash in the hotel’s outdoor pool, which is open year-round.
  • Room with a view: From your hotel’s balcony, you’ll be able to see stunning ocean views.

For grownups, there are two onsite bars and a pair of outdoor hot tubs overlooking the ocean. Cap off the day with a romantic Italian or French dinner and views of a secluded lagoon at Veneto, one of the hotel's three restaurants. With this getaway, you'll also be treated to a special lobster dinner for two.

Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún's Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it's a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

Cancún pulls in millions of visitors each year, so escaping the crowds and the party atmosphere isn't always easy, but a visit to Playa Delfines offers a chance for sunbathing in relative seclusion. Resorts have yet to encroach upon this stretch of sand, and it's especially popular with surfers.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun and read Tom Clancy novels. For a Mayan-themed day trip, take a 1.5-hour drive from Cancún down the coast to Tulum, a pre-Columbian walled city located on a bluff overlooking the sea—one of the Yucatán Peninsula's most visited Mayan ruins. The Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, is only a 2.5-hour drive from Cancún.

Check out the food pics — unbelievable- no wonder the lobby had people sitting around eating food from Uber Eats Alex in guest services made our trip better. She came through on the impossible reservations. You can’t get a reservation for dinner on the night you get there (unless Alex saves you) and you won’t on your second night either bc you can only make them on the app & you must have a room number & by the time you get your room number, check in night and the next night will be full. The buffet line was very very long. I had emailed 2 weeks ahead about dinner reservations and was given false info in writing, thus, Alex was able to help us. Marco Polo was decent/edible. I will attach pictures of Veneto’s food. One pic is advertisement on website. The next is what you get. People were in the lobby eating uber eats they ordered bc as the man said, “ he just couldn’t do it anymore” Drinks were just fine & saved the trip. Employees were all great with the exception of a hostess. Showed up at 10:25 for breakfast buffet, closes at 11:00. She wanted to seat me in the dark indoor area. I asked if we could sit by a window in the better area. She told me it was a table for 4 & since we were 2, no. So inside the dark area there were at least 5 tables for 4 and they were closing soon (highly doubt that many 4 person show up this late) —- when we left the table I had asked for was occupied by two (yes, 2) employees chowing down on food. Huh? Room is fine if your water works. Twice I had to call bc once no sink water as in none. And once shower water was only ice cold. Adults only hot tub was packed with kids. We were asked if we’d like a drink by the pool twice our entire trip and we sat by the pool the whole time. We gave the lady a $20 and asked for change. She was never to be seen again. No beach service and since you aren’t really served anyway, the haul back up to the bar wasn’t worth it plus no umbrellas at the beach. The trip was “ok” but the food was what really made it bad.

Worst resort i have ever experienced... is an understatement i mean Cuba is better and they are still communist I honestly have no cluenhow this place has such a high rating. It's terrible from the moment you walk in. Not enough staff at the front desk long wait. Everyone looks over worked. The hotel leaks from all over the place poor maintenance all around. Then comes the food terrible is and understatement getting a reservation in nearly impossible for any of the restaurants. Everywhere your walk and and everyone you talk to regrets coming here, or atleast almost everyone. Let's not talk about the drinks .... I would say the bottom self kind of alcohol you used to buy in high-school because it's all the money you had. I have spoken with a lot of guests and I haven't found one that will return so please don't waste your money your better off spending a week o your cluch the coming all the way here. They have to restructure upper management.

Terrible Horrible experience as of now . Starting with the front desk , there’s one person the majority of the time , you have to wait hrs to get through the line . Originally I had my room in the 5th floor with no elevator working , then it changed 3 times due to water not working properly/ hot water not working / bed too small / and walking 5 flights of stairs with a 3 year old go figured . Then finally got into a first floor room to find out there’s only one bed when I specifically asked for two . Phone not working , same issue with the water . I’ve been waiting for 6 hrs for someone to show up to fix these issues, I’ve gone several time to the front desk but these guys just tell you what you want to hear . Is 10pm and I have no hot water / no pressure, no bed for my child , phone not working and also the safe box is locked. Supposed to be a great experience but this is turning into a nightmare
