Branson, Missouri: Family-Friendly Theaters and Concert Halls in the Ozarks

If you take a drive through the Ozarks in Missouri, it might seem like an unlikely place to find glittering lights and stage shows—for the most part, it's a rolling plateau of wooded hills, snaking rivers, and limestone bluffs. But follow down Route 76 and you'll find Branson, which looks like a miniature, more family-friendly version of Las Vegas. Dozens of stages and music halls line Branson's main strip, some of which are owned by stars such as Dolly Parton. On any given night you can watch anything from country music performances to circus acrobatics to magic shows.

If you're traveling with kids, Silver Dollar City is a safe bet; it's located about 5 miles west of the strip. The popular theme park is built around Marvel Cave and modeled after an 18th-century frontier town. Here you can hop on a mine-car roller coaster and take a tour by lantern through limestone caverns.

If you want to pay to be treated like trash by the staff this might be the place for you! If I could give zero stars, I would. Sadly, Grand Country is not what it used to be. I hate to leave a negative review, but after failing to resolve the incident with management it is clear that they do not care about their guests, so hoping to save someone else from the same fate. If you want to pay to be treated like trash by the staff this might be the place for you! After multiple family vacations we have watched GC go downhill over the years and we are sad to say this will be our LAST visit. Do not waste your time or money on this “resort,” they ruined our family vacation and it was a HUGE waste of money. The waterpark staff are extremely rude; everything is over priced (The “packages” are just bait to get you there, once you’re there expect to spend a lot more); the rooms are small and not well kept; the water in the water park was FREEZING; we are covered in bites from bugs in the room; the shows were so bad that we walked out of the first one and chose not to even go to the second one. Do not make the same mistake we did, spend your money and time elsewhere, making happy memories with your family. We have 6 kids and all of them are going to have horrible memories of this trip.

Pool day We came on Friday to utilize the pool. It started off on the wrong foot when we walked in greeted by a crabby front desk person. We got the vibe “she hated her job”… The wave pool is freezing, not sure how they can claim it’s heated. While in the wave pool I was with my 3 year old who had a life jacket on and my 7 year old daughter. The waves were not going and our son was less than 6 ft away from me. A lifeguard stopped me saying “you need to be arms length away from him” pointing to our 3 year old. I kind of laughed and said “are you being serious right now?” he turned his back and said “read the sign”. My 10 year old and I went to go down a slide. A women lifeguard was in charge and talking to someone over the ledge… meanwhile the gentleman and his daughter trying to get into the tube are struggling. He falls out of the tube and almost sends her down by herself because he almost didn’t catch the tube. All in all, save your money. It was disappointing how disrespectful the employees where and clearly not happy at there job.

Be Prepared to Walk a Lot! Great Indoor Activity! We got a day pass for the waterpark over spring break. We had a 4 y/o and two 11 y/o. It was easily all day entertainment. There are 2 places to eat inside the waterpark and both were resonable. Pizza was $13 for a 12” and grill was about the same for burger or chicken tender basket. Food was decent. There are slides for the bigger kids and some for the littles. The lifeguards were very attentive and if your little got too far away in the wave pool they would make sure you got back together. There are 2 levels of play areas in the waterpark separated by ramp after ramp. It is definitely not grandparent friendly. Be prepared to walk alot! Also there is no way to see your kids if they are not on the same level. So keeping up with the big kids and the littles was a challenge. Seating is limited and again you can’t see to the other level from your chair. The price was a bit steep for me at $49 per adult whether you plan to swim or not. They do have plenty of towels for a quick dry off, but if you want one with substance and size bring your own. We will probably be back as the grandkids had a blast. Had a lot of fun in the basketball area!
