Mexico's Riviera Maya: Rich with History and Tropical Calm

Just south of Cancún, the Riviera Maya is a nearly 80-mile stretch of Caribbean coastline fronted by towns rich in Mexican culture. For some of the area’s best beaches, clubs, and snorkeling reefs, head to the rapidly growing city of Playa del Carmen. Farther south, Tulum sits on a perch of rocky bluffs and is better known for ancient ruins, including temples and a cliff-side castle. The inhabitants of Tulum—which means "walled" in the aboriginal language—first erected the city's outer fortress to protect themselves from belligerent invaders. Today, the wall guards the archaeological zone, beginning with an entryway of two corbel arches and a limestone house built over an underwater cave.

Swimming in the secret caves isn’t allowed, but a scenic drive south of Playa del Carmen brings you to the Yucatán Peninsula's legendary limestone cenotes, freshwater sinkholes created by an underground river system. At the Cenote Cristalino, you can jump from terraced outcroppings into an exposed pool or go snorkeling in underwater caves. You can also watch locals expertly flip, dive, and synchronously cannonball into the clear water at this popular weekend hangout.

Amazing hotel The hotel was nice and clean, the food was amazing and I wish I could have stayed for longer so I could have tried the full menu but what really made my experience even better at the hotel was the entertainment activities, I totally wasn’t expecting anything like this as other hotels don’t have it but this really made my holidays way better. Daniel surprised me with his energy and ways to make every activities fun, I have to mention Sibely who also was very fun at the karaoke nights and I believe everyone during this sessions were enjoying the fun, You have an excellent team, I have zero complains over this hotel and I would definitely come back next year!

Old and falling apart Here is a TRUE review! We feel completely lied to. This resort is not what the pictures show. Maybe it looked like that when it first opened but now it’s a dump. 100% false advertising by the hotel and Air Canada. Even itravel2000 needs to change their advertising with updated pictures. This is not a five or four-star hotel. This is at best a 3 star. It is so rundown and the customer service is terrible. Once we landed, waited almost two hours for our transfer. Completely disorganized by Air Canada. Then drove an hour and half to get to the resort. Multiple drop offs to other resorts on the way. Of course we were last. Once arrived at this resort we gave 100 pesos to the driver as a tip and was told we needed to give $20 Canadian. Why???Completely put us on the spot. -we ended up spending an additional three hundred dollars to upgrade our room because it was so bad. -We learned that you cannot get a room with a stand up shower unless you spend the money for a junior suite. Which we ended up doing because the bathtubs were so gross. -No room service EVER. Doesn’t matter when you call. They won’t pick up. We tried in our standard room and in our junior suite. Talk to other couples as well and all had the same experience. -Windows and doors are filthy dirty. Beyond disgusting. Never clean. -rooms smell like mold -air conditioner is loud. -No pool cleaning. All dirty and greasy from sunscreen. -Pool bars do not open until 11:00 so you can’t even get a pop or a water -one spot out of the entire resort to get beach towels. Crazy far for some depending on where your room is. Mine was extremely far. Across the parking lot far. -no hot water for showers. Luke warm temperature. Tried morning, afternoon and late, never hot. -resort is old!!! Basically falling apart. - zero fine dinning - Nothing is opened 24 hours except a coffee shop. - Zero entertainment - Extremely rocky beaches. Hard to walk on the beach - Pools are all dirty and paint is chipped and walls are discoloured - For an all inclusive pretty much everything is extra. - Had a bunch of animals living inside the outside walls of our room. Made it almost impossible to use the deck. They kept crawling in and out of the wall. Not safe. - Air Canada did nothing about how disgusted we were - Hotel basically said too bad pay more for an upgrade. Still trying to figure out what we paid more for. The upgrade didn’t give us much. lol.

Great Family Resort We had a wonderful experience. The grounds are beautiful, lots of pool options, the beach is beautiful. Everything is close, so you are not walking forever to get everywhere. The kids club is amazing, THANK YOU Brenda & Nancy! My children loved all the activities and the girls who ran it. The coffee was supreme. There was lots of options in the buffet every night and nice restaurants to choose from. It wasn't busy this time of year, so we didn't have to wait for anything and got our spots on the beach easily. The room cleanliness was average. Would highly recommend

The status quo It is a fine resort. The beach and food were average at best, nothing exceptional except the barista at the sports bar!
