Hotel at a Glance: Grand Sierra Resort and Casino

In USA Today's 2018 10 Best Awards, readers voted Grand Sierra the No. 3 Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas. The casino is the resort's crown jewel, stretching across more than 80,000 square feet lined with gaming tables and multiple types of slots. But the 4-star resort doesn't just cater to the 21-or-older crowd—it also has all-ages activities like bowling and bumper cars for guests traveling with kids.

  • Multiple restaurants ranging from Certified Angus Beef USDA prime steaks at Charlie Palmer Steak to Italian dishes and pho at the Grand Buffet.
  • Bringing the heat: An outdoor pool area with fire pits is open all year.
  • Family-friendly fun: Grownups and little ones can skate around a seasonal ice rink or play arcade games.
  • Best way to spend winnings: indulging in a spa treatment like a Swedish massage.

Reno, Nevada: Casino City with Arts and Outdoor Adventure

Reno lives up to its billing as “The Biggest Little City in the World" thanks to its flashy casinos, cultural centers, and restaurants worthy of a much larger metropolis, all packed together on Virginia Street. If you need a break from courting Lady Luck at the big gaming palaces such as Circus Circus and Harrah's (which was born here), head to the Truckee River Arts District to explore the Nevada Museum of Art and the National Automobile Museum. Because of its location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and just east of Tahoe National Forest, the city also puts visitors within reach of rushing rivers and high mountain ranges for hiking, rafting, and gold-rush reenacting.

Much more than a casino We always enjoy staying at the GSR! The rooms are nice and clean, plenty of restaurants all week long! A large gaming floor, the front desk and players club are always pleasant! The upgrade to destination elevators is a huge win! Their is so much more to enjoy on this property that we have yet to experience. I know their is a beautiful pool, bowling _, a driving range, and plenty of meeting spaces. We have enjoyed a few of the shows their over the years as well.

Perfectly nice option in Reno Very nice casino + hotel combo in Reno. Price wasn’t great despite early booking. It is not on the downtown strip so you have to drive to get anywhere else but it is conveniently located. They offer online pre-check in, which I did. However, of note, I booked with my nickname and you have to scan a license or passport at the kiosk. Since they didn’t match I had to stand in a line and finish checking in with a human which was better than the line of people who didn’t do the pre-check in but wasn’t as speedy as it should have been. They auto-upgraded me to a different tower but it had two queens rather than the king I wanted so I declined it. Our friends took them up on it so we ended up in separate towers. Their room was much smaller and not as recently updated so I don’t get why it was an upgrade. You can’t access the elevators if you don’t have a key for that tower so that was a bit of a pain. Note for EV drivers: They have multiple Tesla chargers. I have a Honda and they had multiple Shell level 1 chargers which are slow and expensive.

Cocktail Server/ Hotel Experience My name is Janice Snyder visiting from Louisiana. Sonita Morada was an excellent cocktail waitress. She has a great personality and a great job well done of servicing her customers. Best experience ever. The hotel is beautiful, clean and great buffet food. The bed was super comfortable. Slept like a baby. Love it
