Steamboat Springs, Colorado: Hiking and Mountain Biking on Scenic Alpine Trails

Steamboat Springs hugs the western ridge of the Continental Divide in northwest Colorado, 150 miles northwest of Denver. Though it’s still a ranching center, the town is best known as a ski destination. In the warmer months, Steamboat Resort’s alpine trails are popular with hikers and mountain bikers.

The city gets its name from the 150-plus hot springs that dot the area; legend has it that the springs sounded, to early settlers, like a steamboat rounding the bend. Visit Strawberry Park Hot Springs to soak in mineral water heated to 104 degrees. Clothing is optional after dark.

terribly gouged My wife and I are in our mid 70's. We were driving from Manti, Utah on our way to Granby, Co. Arrived in Steamboat about dusk, visited several local hotels and everyone was booked. Holiday Inn was nice enough to check and found three vacancies in town. Prices were $600; $450; and $260 at the Gravity Haus. We drove to the G Haus and we were told it was filed up. I told the attendant we just got word that they had a vacancy, she said let me check. About 15 min later she said she had one room for $355. We took it. The hotel we came from was $100 so our expectation was a REALLY nice room! NOT to be! A few examples: our two suitcases had to be on the floor (really nice for older couples); the AC had to be on old full time (wind tunnel effect); Fridge was filled with items they wanted us to buy; due to height you had to get out of bed to turn off the bed lights; electrical plugs were not easy to get to (i-phones) the clock was 20 minutes fast. Very small room, the hotel room in Manti out did Gravity Haus!!! A grab bar would have been nice in the bathroom. OHH, we went down for breakfast and once we picked out our items, a follow pointed to a sign that the breakfast was $15 per person. After we were stuck I noticed the guy picking up the sign and placing it where it was more visible. Parking was horrendous!
