Property at a Glance: Greenhorn Ranch

Guests of Greenhorn Ranch are invited to “get a little cowboy” and seek adventure out in the open air while exploring its 600 acres of pristine Sierra Nevada wilderness. Keeping with cowboy tradition, seasoned riders and newbies alike are encouraged to hop in the saddle and take to the trails on horseback. Experienced ranch hands lead twice-daily guided trail rides and even host riding lessons to help any aspiring equestrians hone their skills.

  • The watering hole and whiskey bar on site at the ranch’s Saloon, also featuring billiards.
  • Hearty meals are served in the Chuckhouse where everyone gathers for meals; special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.
  • Cabin lodging helps city slickers detach from tech-filled lives, forgoing TVs and high-speed data plans in exchange for sprawling forested vistas.
  • Gone fishin’: Fully-stocked trout ponds allow guests to catch their own dinner and have it prepared by one of the ranch’s resident cooks.
  • In-house babysitters are available to keep an eye on the little ones while adults get in touch with their wild sides.
  • Hole in one: The ranch is a 20-minute drive from golf courses including Nakoma Resort, Graeagle Meadows, Plumas Pines, and more.

Plumas County, California: Rugged Scenery in the Sierra Nevada

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Plumas County is a sparsely populated section of Northern California that’s rich in natural beauty. Much of the county is covered by Plumas National Forest, which contains more than 100 lakes in its 1.2 million acres. When it’s warm, popular activities include everything you’d expect in a place of relative wilderness: hiking, kayaking, and fishing, to name a few. For a scenic drive, take the Feather River National Scenic Byway to pass by woodlands and between canyon walls.

Great vacation spot, spectacular scenery. Everyone on staff here is friendly and helpful. The horseback riding is awesome, plenty of horses for everyone and the wranglers do an amazing job! The food is only so-so but the chef is extremely nice. The lodge has been recently remodeled, but the cabins are really dated. Although clean, they leave much to be desired. YMMV

Ranching in STYLE- this place is a GEM! The property is beautiful and set against a majestic backdrop allowing for beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The lodge is cozy and tastefully decorated with modern and rustic elements; with the wood burning going and a cup of coffee or tea, it feels like a real ranch lodge. Rooms are ranch chic simplistic with comfy beds and essential amenities. Meals, served in the “Chuckhouse” dining hall, were delicious and freshly prepared by the friendly chef who was ever present in his cowboy hat. Staff members were friendly and fun; they provided excellent service across all aspects. The horse wranglers, our E-bike tour guide, and the activities staff (including line dancing, art, and karaoke) were top notch. Our expectations were blown away and we could not have had a more fun, exciting, and memorable girls trip! We will be back with our families and more friends! This place is a GEM!

More than just a Dude Ranch! A must see for any outdoor enthusiasts! There is so much to do at the Greenhorn Ranch and the staff could not have been more hospitable and caters to your every need. They have many activities to choose from or you can relax by the beautiful lake or pool. We enjoyed horseback riding, hikes, fishing, skeet shooting, archery, e-bike mountain bike riding during the day. At night they had bon fires, singing and story telling by the fire, whiskey tasting, line dancing, karaoke, hanging out in the saloon and playing an assortment of bar games! I almost forgot to mention, the food was all inclusive and every meal was delicious! All in all a perfect getaway for singles, couples and families!

Excellent! Hurry...don't walk, run and book your stay. We are so sad to be leaving this beautiful and welcoming ranch! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. The team is amazing! Friendly, warm, and welcoming. Chef Brian and his culinary team whip up delicious and fresh meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your stay. Head wrangler Amelia and her team lead horseback rides through some of the best forest land in California. They but you at ease and you feel like your riding with old friends. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is! We are definitely returning and staying longer.
