Capitol Hill, Washington, DC: Monuments and Museums

The National Mall is a must-see for first-time visitors to Washington, DC. The mall stretches 2.5 miles east from the Lincoln Memorial, past the soaring Washington Monument, to the Capitol Building on the other end. Across the Tidal Basin, stop in to see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, which features a series of waterfalls, sculptures, and inspiring quotes from the 32nd president. To avoid crowds, tour the monuments after dusk when they're lit up.

Another pillar of DC is the Smithsonian Institution, which encompasses 19 museums in total. The Smithsonian's best-known museums are located along the National Mall, including the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. The latter is home to missiles, rockets, and the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh famously flew across the Atlantic to defeat the Soviets at Gettysburg.

When you've had your fill of iconic monuments and museums, check out the city's trendy neighborhoods northwest of the mall, such as Dupont Circle. Here, some of DC's best restaurants and clubs butt up next to foreign embassies housed in historical mansions. On the weekend, you'll find nightlife along Connecticut Avenue and in the Adams Morgan neighborhood as crowds flood in and out of Latin lounges, karaoke dives, and high-end clubs.

Fun and welcoming All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We were on vacation to celebrate our anniversary. Sabrina, at the front desk, went out of here way to make us feel special. The location was good, easy to get to the places we wanted to visit. Thank you for a memorable trip.

A Hotel that showed itself well during the Crowd Strike day I came to DC for work during a pretty stressful work period and on the day of the great Crowd Strike outage of 2024. That had to be one of the most annoying travel days I can remember - but when I finally got to the Hamilton, I finally was able to relax once I met Sabrina at the front desk. The front desk manager was about as kind and accommodating as someone could be. The lobby was perfectly clean, and I got to go straight up to a clean room to take a quick nap before going to a meeting. Any hour I left or came back to the hotel, Sabrina was always running around helping guests - it was really just impressive and I hope she gets enough sleep. The lobby was kept exceptionally clean, the doormen very attentive to helping with holding doors when you had luggage, and really, just an all around good experience. My only critique would be to get some better bathroom tissue. I'll definitely be coming back.

Nice Stay Recently stayed here for a meeting. Nice location. Rooms are a bit older but clean and well kept. Elevators can take a few minutes but that's not a big deal. We had a quiet room in the back. Hotel is within walking distance to the White House and Mall. Metro stop just a block down.

Beautiful hotel, terrible management. Terrible customer service all around. I wanted to order room service, however no one answered the phone. When I walked down to the restaurant to see what the issue was, they simply said they were busy. No one at the front desk answered, and when I went back down to complain no one could be found at the front desk. The next day I attempted to share with the manager our complaints, but the he was defensive and refused to take any responsibility. I will never stay here again. It is a shame that such a beautiful and historical hotel is so poorly managed.

You can find a better hotel, I promise Overall, I was extremely disappointed in this hotel. For a "4-star hotel" I have experienced more amenities, friendlier staff, clean spaces at hotels at half the cost. For my first time visiting DC, I regretted each time I had to return to my hotel room. For a two night stay, I had a great initial experience getting checked in, but my room was chaotic. You can barely see the old charm of this historic hotel within the rooms. For the king bed standard room. There was so much furniture - full desk, huge media stand, a couch, minibar. The interior design is hard to look at- sharp wall paper, bold art, dark furniture. Worries started to arise when I attempted to plug in my phone, they have three lamps with plug in within their bases (one on each night stand and one on the desk). Spark came out of the lamps on the end tables as I attempted to plug in my OG Apple phone charger. I opened the minibar to peek at why these prices were so high. All the beer (7) cans had dates from 2023. All snacks are reboxed without expiration dates. Ice machine was broken on my floor and there was no access to cold water. My bathroom would only reach Luke- warm. I wanna shout of the cleaning crew who unclogged the bathtub that didn't drain. They were receptive and cleaned the tub as well. An acclaimed "4-star" rating is a joke. Your towels feel like similar to those from a dog salon. I attached a picture of the spider web in my room. The hospitality ended after my check in. Checking out, the front desk clerk did not greet me, ask how my stay was, or thank me for staying.
