South Lake Tahoe, California: Year-Round Haven for Outdoor Adventures and Late-Night Revelry

Lake Tahoe has no real off-season; people find ways to make use of its pristine water, beaches, and mountains all year long. In the summer, the lake’s clear, freshwater surface—which straddles the California-Nevada border—is dotted with swimmers, boaters, and jet skiers. Several ski resorts typically stay open from November to April, and Emerald Bay State Park is accessible year-round. A moderately easy hike to the base of Lower Eagle Falls reveals breathtaking views of the waterfalls crashing down from above.

Spectators gather at night for South Lake Tahoe’s events, which range from wine and food festivals to rock concerts and fireworks displays. A few miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe sits Stateline, Nevada, where a handful of casinos host high-stakes games of blackjack and solitaire.

We absolutely love staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The only problem we had this last visit was because of the extreme weather condition there was no access to Tahoe. When I asked Groupon about a possible refund or chance of changing the date of my groupon they did nothing. I will not buy another travel offer from Groupon!!

Javrelor Disgusting! 0 empathy from staff, 0 understanding, disgraceful service, hotel staff has no empathy at all. You should have the dump you call a hotel closed! I would not recommend even to the worst enemies such conditions. I have cockroaches crawling on my feet in the dining room! It's not normal!

Wish we hadn’t stayed here We drove from MN to CA and back and this was our worst experience (and most expensive). Check-in was very slow. We could only get a luggage cart if we used bellhops (at night) or by leaving an ID hostage in the morning. The best thing I can say was that the room was large (they gave us a suite without our asking). The wallpaper was peeling, the carpet was grungy, there were cigarette burn holes in the balcony furniture cushions, both the couch and half the bed had broken springs. When I turned down the bed there was a mystery stain on the sheets, and it took them 45 minutes to bring us new ones (to put on ourselves). It took a long time to figure out how to turn off the extremely squeaky ceiling fan, and there was light from under the door to the adjoining room for the entire night. No food is included. The pool closed at 7:00 pm, so we couldnt even use that after driving all day. i wish we had stayed at one of the cheapy motorlodges because at least then nothing would have surprised us.
