Hotel at a Glance: Hassayampa Inn

Few hotels can claim to be as integral to their communities as the Hassayampa Inn. When it was being built in the 1920s, hundreds of townspeople bought $1 shares in the hotel to help fund its construction, giving them personal stakes in its success. The hotel went on to become a cornerstone of the community and is on the National Register of Historic Places today.

  • Southwest style is sprinkled throughout the hotel, from the lobby's glazed tile floors and hand painted ceilings to the warm tones of the guestrooms.
  • The onsite restaurant & lounge, Peacock Dining Room & Glass Bar, serves three meals per day; you can order southwest cuisine from lemon soufflé pancakes to prime rib. In addition, there's a nightly happy hour with live entertainment.
  • Famous guests include: Clark Gable, D. H. Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe, and more recently, Josh Brolin and Miles Teller.
  • Explore the outdoors on nearby hiking trails (more than 450 miles of them) or by taking a kayak out on Watson Lake or Goldwater Lake.

Prescott, Arizona: Historical Mountain Town Encircled by Wilderness

Prescott maintains small-town charm with a Wild West touch. Across the street from the courthouse plaza you’ll find shops, museums, antique stores, as well as the saloons of Whiskey Row—a historical block of bars once frequented by notorious outlaws and cowboys. Push through the swinging doors of the Palace Saloon and you can sit at a bar where Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday were known to wet their whistles.

There are many outdoor activities here as well. Trek up the steep paved paths of iconic Thumb Butte and pause at the summit for panoramic views of the areas that's surrounded by four nation forests, four lakes and ten golf courses. Watson Lake Park is a popular spot for kayaking and fishing. Many families favor the park’s short hiking trails through rocky, high-desert landscapes.

An Unexpected and Wonderful Experience My wife and I recently spent a couple of nights at the Hassayampa Inn over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. We arrived on the first night in the early evening, somewhat tired after driving from Phoenix to Sedona for some mountain biking, and then on to Prescott. We were warmly greeted and checked in by Shane, who also kindly assisted us with our bags. After freshening up from a long day of travel and activity, we chose to dine in the Peacock Dining Room. My wife ordered the scallops, and I had the lamb shank, both dishes were delicious, perfectly prepared, and generously portioned. We stayed in a standard king room, which was spacious and featured a very comfortable bed with soft linens. The only downside was the rather small bathroom, which is to be expected in such a historic building, but it didn’t detract much from our overall comfort. On St. Patrick’s Day, we ventured out to try a different dining spot but returned to the Inn later that evening to find a lively, fully packed bar and lobby area celebrating the holiday. We had a great time mingling and chatting with several locals who were also there to enjoy the festivities. The next morning, we had a terrific breakfast in the Peacock Dining Room and were cheerfully checked out by Monica, with Dylan kindly assisting us with our bags. Needless to say, we will definitely be back!

We LOVE the Hassayampa This was our 3rd stay at the Hassayampa and we'll be coming back again many times in the future. It's a beautiful old historic hotel and the staff couldn't be friendlier. We love that we can bring our small dog with us overnight and even eat with him at a table by the huge plate glass windows in the gorgeous lobby. Sometimes when we're in town we just stop in for breakfast in the lobby with him and when we're walking him on the streets nearby he'll pull us to the door! We had a King suite on this stay and the last one and it was lovely to have the extra space of a living room and big king bed. I think we'll always get a king suite in the future too. The hotel has done a fabulous job of combining the ambiance of yesteryear with modern amenities. We highly recommend staying and dining here.

A wonderful stay at a historic hotel The historic Hassayampa Inn has been beautifully restored and maintained. They have managed to keep the historic feel in the rooms and common areas while providing modern ammenities. Everything is very clean, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. It is also very pet friendly. You are not allowed to leave your pet in the room unattended but they do allow you to dine with them outside on the patio, or there are 3 tables in the spacious historic lobby where the restaurant will serve you. They will also give you a list of pet friendly stores and restaurants nearby.
