South Lake Tahoe, California: Year-Round Haven for Outdoor Adventures and Late-Night Revelry

Lake Tahoe has no real off-season; people find ways to make use of its pristine water, beaches, and mountains all year long. In the summer, the lake’s clear, freshwater surface—which straddles the California-Nevada border—is dotted with swimmers, boaters, and jet skiers. Several ski resorts typically stay open from November to April, and Emerald Bay State Park is accessible year-round (depending on snowfall). A moderately easy hike to the base of Lower Eagle Falls reveals breathtaking views of the waterfalls crashing down from above.

Spectators gather at night for South Lake Tahoe’s events, which range from wine and food festivals to rock concerts and fireworks displays. A few miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe sits Stateline, Nevada, where a handful of casinos host high-stakes games of blackjack and solitaire.

Amazing family feel in a beautiful location We loved our stay at the Heavenly Valley Lodge. My husband and I had a long weekend planned to visit a client and friend and found this amazing place thanks to a friend's recommendation. Michelle, who runs the lodge, was the nicest person and helped me get some groceries when she realized I was without a car for the first couple of days. How incredible! Can't say enough nice things about the people and the service. On top of that, the lodge itself is so cute; very nicely decorated and clean; nice big kitchen where you can sit and enjoy your breakfast or coffee. The outdoor areas are amazing with sitting areas, a fire pit and grassy areas, and the smell of Pine trees is wonderful. We will definately be back! Thanks again for a great weekend!

Great Place! We called last minute when I couldn't take another night on the horrible double bed my husband's work provided him while working in Tahoe. Michelle was so sweet and took care of us right away and got us a room ready for me to check into early. We loved the room, and the bed was very comfortable. It was all very cozy. We were treated like friends immediately and enjoyed not only the accommodations but the conversation. We had a great breakfast, including great coffee. When we booked, Michelle was quick to make sure we didn't have any allergies to accommodate, which was so nice. We are already considering a trip up this summer for fun with our kids to stay there.

Like staying with old friends This was a wonderful home base for us on a recent snowboarding trip to Tahoe. We got in late and Michelle made it super easy for us to just crash when we got there. The room was super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, homemade right in front of us. Garrett was really friendly and helpful. It was a great location we just jumped on the shuttle to take us to Heavenly Village, no stress with driving or parking. I highly recommend this place and hope to return!
