Chelsea: Hip, Artsy Neighborhood near Times Square

Rows of independent art galleries line the blocks of 25th and 26th streets in Chelsea, located just southwest of Midtown Manhattan. Throughout the neighborhood are more than 350 such spaces—mostly in converted warehouses and factories—contributing to the area’s elite status in the contemporary art world. In addition to visual arts, prominent dance venues such as The Joyce Theater and The Kitchen showcase eclectic performances ranging from ballet to traditional Indian choreography.

From Chelsea, you can easily walk to Midtown to catch a Broadway musical or watch basketball, hockey, or big-name musical acts at Madison Square Garden. A little farther up Broadway, Times Square buzzes with sparkling billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and nonstop neon lights. Even the MTA station here glitters. Keep an eye out for One Times Square, the site of the annual New Year’s Eve ball drop. Other points of interest include the Paramount Building and the Empire State Building, where you can see the city from the King Kong–approved 86th-floor observation deck.

It was ok, had a place to stay for the night but the night shift was rude and i wasn’t aware of there being a $100 deposit AFTER already have paid for the room and drove 8 1/2 hrs to get there. i also noticed a few black spots on the pillow case that resembles bed bug droppings none of that bedding was fresh. There was only one rag put in the room for 2 queen beds. the day time workers are nice.

Filthy Run Down Hotel- Hilton should be embarrassed This hotel is absolutely the worst Hilton property I have ever stayed at. The entire place is completely run down and filthy. The air conditioner in my room sounded like a diesel engine. The Hilton brand should be embarrassed to have this property in there portfolio. I actually left a day early and paid because very rude front desk clerk told me I couldn’t check out a day early it was past the 24 hr window. I relocated to the Moxy which is right next to it. Be warned stay at the Moxy.

Great location, average stay. I normally stay at the mainline Hilton two blocks away, but thought I would give this location a try this time. I fully realize these are different concepts and cater to different market segments; however, I think some of the Hilton hospitality is missing here. I have stayed at other Hilton Gardens before. This is an average mid range hotel that is starting to show its age. The AC was very noisy throughout the stay. Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors. The beds have more than a few miles on them, so I would hope they would be rotated out with new soon. The front desk was welcoming and pleasant when I arrived, but after that you really are not acknowledged by the staff. The location is great since the 28th st subway station is on the same block and is a quick walk to Penn Station. There are several mid range hotels on this same block. Overall, it was ok. I think it needs some tlc and some attention from Hilton corporate. Not the same experience I’ve had at other Hilton Garden.

It'll do I'm more than a little suspicious about all the reviews talking about how great specific staff members are by name. Did these employees or their friends write the reviews? The hotel was OK. By NYC standards the room was an OK size for 2 people for 1 or 2 nights. I would have found it depressing to stay longer. Most of the room was in good condition. But the tub was a mess with chipped off paint everywhere and the walls were marked up in some places. Our room was on the 3rd floor so it had no view but it was quiet because it didn't face the street.
