Fayetteville, Arkansas: College Town with Presidential History

Fayetteville is the proud home of the University of Arkansas, the state’s largest and best-known university. Like in any good college town, you can find lots of unique bars, restaurants, and boutiques near campus, most of which are concentrated on Dickson Street. The university also attracted another interesting site: Bill and Hillary Clinton’s first home together. They resided here in the 1970s, while they were both teaching at the university’s School of Law. Today, you can see photos of them in their younger years and memorabilia from their campaigns exhibited throughout the modest building, now known as the Clinton House Museum.

Around Fayetteville Historic Square, you can see examples of Queen Anne, Italianate, and Romanesque Revival architecture. The square, marked by wide sidewalks and gardens, hosts a farmers’ market on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday between April and late November.

The place was clean and the staff was amazing. My mom is 95 and in a wheelchair—they went the extra mile to make her comfortable.

Automatic 1-star review if theres NO toilet paper in the room! Fairfield Inns are mostly good, so I’m reviewing for this trip. At the most inconvenient time, it was discovered there was NO toilet paper in the room. Two toilet paper holders side by side on the wall — empty. I tried calling the desk, but the phone didn’t work. When I went down, I was told that the cleaning staff had been stashing toilet paper. And that they had to take it on faith that they supply the rooms. No. This is not a valid excuse. There’s such a thing as oversight, especially if there is a known problem. I told him they ought to not give the maids any toilet paper at all, and just hand out a roll at checkin. This may not sound like a viable solution, but from my point of view it’s better for the guest than being trapped on the john with no tissue in sight. There were no little shampoos etc, either, but I always bring my own anyway. I have to say that I’ve stayed in some pretty awful hotels/motels in my life, but never until today was toilet paper absent. Another complaint: there was a photo of a pool and jacuzzi on the Springdale Fairfield website, but when we got there, we were told that the jacuzzi had been filled in for a long time. For that alone, I won’t come back, but that’s just me. I choose hotels with jacuzzis, which are wonderful after a day’s driving.

Stay here!! Excellent! Wonderful and friendly staff - I’ve never seen so many smiles! Clean room. Nice little breakfast. For a little over $100 on Capital One Travel, this hotel delivered way more than expected. The room was quiet, beds were comfortable, and my wife and I didn’t feel cramped at all. Stay here!

Just ok Staff was friendly, room was clean enough and bed was comfortable, but there were several cosmetic issues I wouldn’t expect while paying over $100/night, like ripped carpet, toiletries supposed to be attached to wall in shower ripped off, and a peeling, unsightly ceiling above the shower.
