San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux-Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

It was a very comfortable room, although extremely small, which we expected. The location was absolutely perfect, right on the water by the Bay Bridge and walkable to everything in Union Square and Chinatown. The restaurant was great and the service was great.

Outstanding Place I stay here every time I get a chance! The staff are great and the rooms are clean and have large walk in showers. Rooms overlooking the Bay Bridge are worth it; the're right across the street. Your're your room's elevator away from a most excellent bar and restaurant.

Classic Boutique Hotel In An Ideal Location. One of my mainstays through the years, both as a frequent traveler and a several time S.F. resident, the 'Griff' is a warm and inviting classic boutique hotel, with an attentive & friendly staff, in an ideal location and surrounding waterfront environment, with plenty of great restaurants (and shops and Ferry Building) within close walking distance, including adjoining Perry's downstairs.
