Savannah, Georgia: Historical Mansions and a Lively River Walk

Founded in 1733 as Georgia's first town, Savannah is not only one of the most graceful cities in the South but also one the most historic. The old but well-preserved architecture landed it on Forbes’s 2011 list of America's Best Downtowns, and Travel + Leisure dubbed it one of the top cities in the United States and Canada in 2013. The city's 22 famous public squares play host to some famous landmarks, such as antebellum-era houses framed by moss-covered oak trees. Head to Oglethorpe Square to see the Owens-Thomas House, an English Regency–style mansion completed in 1819 that now serves as a museum; tours here depart from the original carriage house and go past its charming English-style parterre garden.

Another relic of Savannah's past, River Street curves for about a mile along Savannah River's south bank. The cobblestone walkways are lined with 100-year-old cotton warehouses that have been converted into antique shops, brewpubs, and galleries. A short walk west of River Street will take you to the City Market, a four-block public meeting space on the edge of downtown.

Great stay and awesome staff Great room and very clean and my TV was not working and got a new TV 15 minutes later thanks to the front desk and John. Breakfast food was great and the bar was great . Will stay here the next time I’m in Savannah; also City Market was great in the afternoon to eat and listen to music.

The WORST Front Desk for the Worst Hotel READ THE REVIEWS, DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL, NO MATTER THE AGENCY OR COMPANY YOU ARE GOING WITH. Astoundingly this trip has cost me the permission to book vacations in the future BECAUSE of how terrible check in/hotel was. Having worked in Hospitality for over a year in a hotel with a much MUCH higher daily volume, it's absolutely flabbergasting to see so many negative reviews about staff and nothing seems to have changed. Do yourself a favor and look at how many reviews talk about the incredibly terrible front desk staff, over the course of MONTHS, I'll let you know now, it definitely hasn't changed. I have never worked somewhere where you can act so belligerently rude and unprofessional towards customers (FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME) and continue to be employed. 75$ incidental fee for each night (totaling 150$ for our two night stay), when asked about what that entails, I was just told "as long as everything is good when you check out, you'll get that back." Now I'm worried that may not be the case, based on reviews. We were given busted keys, got them rekeyed, and within two hours of check in, they had given keys to our room to another set of guests. Not wanting to deal with front staff again, we laughed it off and continued on, only to find our keys had stopped working after a trip to a restaurant a block away. This forced us to go to the front staff again. When asking for a manager, we were directed to the front desk to leave our name and number (considering how these other reviews have gone. That MOST DEFINITELY led to a dead end). This was all on day one.  Additional fees:  Non-Optional $25 "Destination fee" for the exact same benefits any Marriott or Super 8 would give you: Wifi, 2 Bottled Waters in the room, and that's about it (To be fair, this also includes a drink plan) Being someone who has been sober for years, this was incredibly uncomfortable to be forced to pay for, or have pushed onto me. So be warned. 75$ Incidental Nightly Fee: Absolutely bonkers amount of money that the front staff gleefully took from us after having us deal with some of the worst staff interactions we have ever had the utter displeasure to endure.  $48/night Valet ONLY: No self parking. If you are following along, our trip has now incurred an additional ~$275 dollars if we decide to use the parking, and we haven't even spent a single night here yet. Make that make any type sense? And before the lazy response of "That's concerning, we try to..." Get real; MONTHS of the same reviews back to back to back, with the same generic responses. This hotel is not interested in offering a relaxing stay, it is solely interested in squeezing every additional cent for as little additional service as possible. If you have kids, avoid. If you have self-respect, avoid. If you aren't a big fan of being conned out of nearly 300+ dollars (On top of the reservation) for 2 days, avoid. This is the WORST vacation experience we have ever had. We will make sure to suggest camping on the river bank before coming here and giving this place a single cent. If this is the only place you can get in Savannah? Visit another city. Our group was composed of a young toddler, my wife, her best friend, and myself. The implication that the inept front staff is just handing keys out to anyone's rooms makes it nearly impossible for us to not stress when leaving the room. Vacations are not meant for 24/7 worry if a random citizen is gonna get into our room and help themselves to our items. When the front desk was notified, they didn't even apologize. Starla explicitly has made our trip and targeted our party to make it the most depressing experience ever. She has gone out of her way to make every interaction with the front as agonizing as possible. I'm surprised she is kept on at all, due to her obvious power trip. She has nothing going on her life and she desperately needs the attention. Can't even listen in a customer service position. Completely unempathetic and pathetic as a professional, Starla is the root of a lot of the issues from each review of this place.

Great Check in was a breeze with Tiffany. She was very helpful, and went out of her way to accommodate us. The room was great. Food in the dining room was excellent. Thanks again Tiffany!! Check out was just as easy. Valet’s were very courteous. Thanks to all the staff.
