Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Ultratrendy Neighborhood Across the East River from Manhattan

In a game of word association, “Williamsburg” is likely to elicit a common response: “hipster.” The popular neighborhood, located opposite Manhattan’s Lower East Side, has become synonymous with young people and bohemian living. This relationship dates as far back as the 1980s, when the first artists and musicians began crossing the East River in search of cheaper rents. In recent years, Williamsburg has gentrified bigtime. And though many artists have now been priced out of the neighborhood, they’ve left behind a constellation of galleries, music venues, dive bars, and some of New York’s best restaurants.

Though the ultra trendy Williamsburg can feel like it’s a world away from Manhattan, in reality it’s quite close. Three subway lines, the Williamsburg Bridge, and even a water taxi provide easy access to the next borough over. For visual confirmation of Manhattan’s proximity, visit East River State Park, a 7-acre green space with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline. Afterward, consider swinging by one of the many restaurants on Grand Street.

Great Location! Pretty hotel and nice rooms. Wish they had a microwave in the room but it was fine son adjusted to leftover cold pizza. Went a day without hot water. Overall staff was great and a nice place to stay. Great location and close to the subway so easy to get to and from. Great bagel place close by.

Wonderful hotel/ Nightmare 3rd Party reservation experience through PRICELINE scam! Firstly, the staff. Amazing! Concierge “Alex” helped us so much, as well as the staff checking in/out. Secondly, The accommodations. The room was immaculately clean, quiet, modern, lovely. The bed was unbelievably comfortable. Lastly, We utilized their relaxing lobby lounge & am coffee/breakfast bar. Mochas! Yummy! Love this hotel & it’s close to so much, including our family which makes it our first choice to stay. My only complaint is that TWICE, TripAdvisor listed this hotel & showed phone numbers that appear to be direct lines to booking with the hotel itself. TWICE we were connected to 3rd Party vendors so we LOST the hotel points. After the first swindle, I thought I was careful not to let it happen again, so when I booked the hotel the second time, I asked the reservation agent if I was speaking DIRECTLY to the hotel chain, Hotel Indigo IGH, THREE times I was LIED to by the PRICELINE agent. I’m going to file a complaint when we arrive home. FALSE advertising (ILLEGAL) & we lost our points for a total of FIVE nights at this hotel. An expensive stay resulting in no bonus points. As a retired police officer, I know the difference between legal & illegal. PRICELINE has agents who LIE! BEWARE! The hotel & their staff, itself, was wonderful though.

No hot water The problem was no hot water in the hotel for over12 hours - from 9 PM until we left the next morning. Fo all I know, there's still no hot water as I write this review. I asked the desk clerk to write on our room receipt that there was no hot water; she would not sign or give her name. The manager would only give her first name; I was finally able to get the name of the general manager. Other than the hot water and the reluctance of the desk clerk to attest to the hot water issue, the hotel was fine. Exceptionally stylish. Within walking distance of good restaurants. I'm of the opinion that new construction in Brooklyn tends to be shoddy; I've heard more than a few horror stories and I don't even live there. I wonder if the hot water system installed was subpar.

Nice hotel with terrible customer service The customer service is the worse ever… I come weekly for business and the service acts like they do you a favor… but last night the room was 50 degrees and I asked for the heat to be fixed they told me the engineer is on the way and that was for 2 hours… he never arrived and they told me I can check out for not penalty…_ I had to fight to be changed rooms and by then it was already 11:15pm… terrible terrible service!!!!

It's a "Fly" Place to Stay Let me start by saying that the Hotel Indigo Williamsburg has a great prime location near great restaurants and the subway, and it was a convenient place to stay when we went to see Zach Bryan in December at the Barclays Center. But there's something icky to look out for -- the hotel's apparent status as Brooklyn's premier drain fly haven. I first noticed our iridescent co-guests while enjoying what should have been a peaceful morning shower. And then I noticed some flies who had passed over to drain fly heaven -- their chalky carcasses resting on the wall tile and the ceiling above. The staff seemed unfazed ("Oh, the drain flies? They're harmless!"), which was frustrating because watching these bathroom-dwellers emerge from your shower drain does take a strong constitution. I counted 10+ flies in our one small stall shower. And yes, they're harmless – but try telling that to yourself when one lands on you when you are bathing.
