Tacoma, Washington: Port City with Thriving Cultural District near Seattle

Tacoma is a midsize city located 30 miles south of Seattle on Puget Sound. In the 1990s, the city began to reinvent itself as a cultural and intellectual hub, adding a rejuvenated waterfront and a thriving museum district. This district included the Museum of Glass, which is easy to spot thanks to a distinctive, 90-foot-tall cone covered in stainless-steel panels. Inside, you can watch glassblowing demonstrations and check out thousands of delicate works. Dale Chihuly’s Bridge of Glass connects the museum to downtown via a covered walkway decorated with the artist’s colorful creations.

Another popular spot is Point Defiance Park, a 700-acre peninsula jutting into Puget Sound. Amid flower gardens and nature trails, you’ll find the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, where exhibits include an Asian forest sanctuary, a polar bear habitat, and a tropical coral reef inhabited by dozens of sharks.

Exceptional Service and Great Amenities From the moment I walked into the hotel, I knew my money was well spent. The staff was exceptional, accommodating my request for a late checkout by an hour with a smile and eagerness to assist. Both the restaurant and gym were incredibly convenient and added to the overall positive experience. The only area that could use improvement is the towels, as they were a bit rough on my skin. Despite this minor issue, I found my stay well worth it and would highly recommend this hotel.

Don't Believe the Star Ratings This hotel is extemely outdated and not maintained. A group of us stayed and all of our rooms had problems, from broken showers/faucets, closets and shelves to dirty rooms. Also, there was no housecleaning for a 2 night stay. The rooms also smelled of old cigarette smoke.
