Downtown Los Angeles: Shopping, Restaurants, and Museums in the Heart of the City

Stroll past the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles and you'll see gleaming modern architecture, neon pagodas, and maybe even a celebrity or two. This 65-block district is incredibly diverse; its easy-to-navigate street grid is divided into multiple quarters, each of which enjoys a distinct cultural identity. In Little Tokyo, you can visit bakeries, shops, and restaurants reflecting the residents' Japanese-American heritage. The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is also here; it houses a vast collection of abstract-expressionist, minimalist, pop, and conceptual work by the likes of Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, and Mark Rothko.

The dining and nightlife scene mirrors the area's diversity. You can find nearly any kind of food here, from Peruvian to Vietnamese to Persian. An opulent option is The Edison, an upscale bar built into a century-old power plant. Nearby, you can visit some of the city's most popular entertainment venues, including the L.A. Live, which features 6 performance spaces, 19 restaurants, a cineplex, and the Grammy Museum. The Staples Center is right next door; depending on the season, you can watch the Lakers, Clippers, or Kings in action.

We have been charged a $250 cleaning fee because the next customers complained that the room smelled like Marijuana. I’ve spoken to the manager on duty 11/29/2022 and explained a few points; I’ve explained that the no smoking policy was not violated. There are no ashes, burn marks, paraphernalia, tobacco waste products in the trash or smoke that was emanating from within the room. The cleaning crew performed cleaning on day 1 of the stay and nothing was said or reported to us about any problems. Marijuana is legal in Los Angeles, and even people who don’t smoke Marijuana , but are in the vicinity of the smoke, will smell like it. We did participate in the social club scene where Marijuana smells were ubiquitous, and 1 of 2 of the people staying in the room, bought some Marijuana from a local dispensary, but only smoked in an outdoor setting. I argued that the policy does not explicitly state No Marijuana smells in your clothing, nor does it state that you can not carry Marijuana on your person when entering the property. I was told the charge would not be reversed and was only charged because someone complained. Since there is no policy specifically targeting the unsmoked aroma of Marijuana, I have no choice but to press the issue through all available means. I have paid the extra credit card fee but will be Pursuing legal and other means to prevent this unfair charge from happening to others in the future

Absolutely skip. Cute, but a total mess What a bad experience, and we're still in the thick of it. Went to check in to a suite around 5pm and was told it wasn't ready. The sweet front desk worker tried to radio housekeeping multiple times and they didn't respond. We could tell she was overwhelmed so we offered to wait at the bar and she could call when the room was ready. Upstairs bar area was nice, great view, but quite expensive. Only one server for the rooftop. Food took ages, but was tasty. $66 for two drinks and one chicken wrap later, and we called downstairs since it had been over an hour and a half. We were told our room was ready, they just forgot to tell us. Down at check in, we get our bags and I am given two letters. One to inform us they may be updating the door lock so don't be alarmed, and another to say the pool, bar, lobby, AND restaurant will all be closed for the entire next day for filming. We said the only reason we booked was for the pool the next day. We asked if there was another pool we could use, but no one knew. They would check with the manager and call us. In our room, the AC was barely blowing and couldn't be turned up. The mini bar was leaking and warm, so I tried to call for ice and to check on the pool situation since another hour had passed. I called housekeeping with no answer. Room service, no answer. Front desk, no answer. Finally called on my cellphone and got an answer. I was told ice could be delivered and we could use the pool at the Intercontinental, but we'd have to pay for parking over there too. We were paying a resort fee for no resort. Breakfast was a drip coffee and bad pastry. Another hour passes and still no ice. I call again and finally ice is delivered. This is literally all on day one. There are other options in the area. Stay literally anywhere else.

Quick Downtown Stay Stayed here for one night as part of a work trip - centrally located in a generally safe area of downtown LA (that is generally NOT safe). Rooftop pool is excellent. Whole Foods and various restaurants all within a couple blocks walking distance. Decor is quite dated though and not my style. Outlets didn't actually work by the night stand on either side (neither for myself nor my colleague in another room).

Great Experience We frequently stay in the DTLA area and have now found our new favorite hotel. It's rare now a days that a hotel stay goes perfect but yet this one was just that. We stayed about a week ago. Check-in was easy and fast. The room we received was amazing. The staff was helpful and even offered to show us around. It just had a good vibe and will for sure be coming back. Thank You.
