Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco: Fresh Seafood and Family-Friendly Fun

Once ground zero for San Francisco's fishing industry, Fisherman's Wharf has blossomed into one of the city's top tourism destinations. Things to do in the waterfront neighborhood range from boutique shopping and gourmet dining at Ghirardelli Square to family-friendly museums, street performances, and seafood restaurants on Pier 39. You can watch a colony of sea lions lounging by the bay, or play vintage pinball machines and penny arcade games at the Musée Mécanique.

Though only a few dozen fishing boats dock here nowadays, there are still plenty of places to sample the wharf's famous dungeness crab. To learn more about the area's history, head to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, where you can see old schooners, tugboats, and other nautical artifacts. Ferries make it easy to get to other nearby attractions, including the infamous Alcatraz Island prison.

Disappointing Stay I travel to San Francisco on a monthly basis and usually stay near Fisherman's Wharf. I stayed at the Zephyr a year ago and loved it. The location is amazing and the courtyard and firepits are great. It has a cool ambience. However, It has really gone downhill since my previous stay. The room had peeling paint. The room door would constantly stick making it challenging to close. One of the elevators was out of service causing long waits. They are short staffed and front desk staff was rude and not welcoming. For a 6 night stay was only given 1 s'more kit. I recall getting coupons for each night previous. In addition just to get the smores you have to wait in the same line as others checking in which takes forever. Walls are thin and I could hear babies crying and dogs barking. Also, most of the other hotels in the area have allowed for early check in. Not here. I will be avoiding in the future. Do want to give a shout out to housekeeping Service was good and regular. Also Anthony in bell services was always helpful.

Stay somewhere else I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We stayed 4 days, it was a huge deal getting out of the hotel with our vehicle because the gates didn’t work so we had to call them and give them a ton of information to verify our identity for them to open the gate. We went out on our balcony to enjoy the view and when we tried to go back in, we were locked out. The front desk wouldn’t answer their phone so we were locked out for an hour, freezing, before we were finally able to flag someone down in the courtyard from our balcony and have them go tell the front desk to answer their phone. Therooms are very small, the beds are super uncomfortable and the shower was terrible.

Hotel Zephyr Niether Booking nor the hotel Zephyr website wrote that the breakfast was outside of hotel. Every morning we had to go to Pier 39 (10 minutes on foot) to have breakfast wich was an american breakfast not an international. It’s incorrect. In addiction, in our room was impossible to open the windows… crazy…it was bad. It would be better write these things clearly on the website.
