Eureka, California: Historic Seaport Along Redwood Highway

The coastal town of Eureka lies along the Redwood Highway in Northern California. Take a short drive in either direction and you’ll see dense groves of enormous trees as well as steep bluffs with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. To experience the full majesty of the region, visit Redwood National and State Parks, where more than 200 miles of trails weave through old-growth redwood forests filled with the tallest trees on earth.

Historic Old Town Eureka is lined with dozens of ornate Victorian and early 20th-century mansions, vestiges of the town’s early days as a bustling seaport for the logging and fishing industries. A famous example is the Carson Mansion, an eclectic three-story home that’s considered one of the grandest examples of Queen Anne architecture in the country. Old Town is also a good destination for shopping at local boutiques or strolling along the boardwalk overlooking Humboldt Bay.

Nice old historic hotel This hotel has warm welcoming charm, Jeff at the front desk has his nice little puppy dog to cheer us up that left our pets at home on vacation. All nice people here, really loved the place, not modern, which was a perfect relaxing stay, just what we needed while exploring the redwoods. The restaurant’s are open sone days not others, but there are options in town

Unique aesthetic and amazing food - just don't mind the homeless people Super cool aesthetic with amazing restaurant food, and the rooms were very clean and unique. Only downfalls were the lack of a variety at breakfast (only given how amazing the food was at the restaurant, the breakfast seemed very lackluster - just bagels and small pastries) and being woken up each morning by homeless people. Otherwise it was a great stay and encouraged my family to try more historic hotels!

5 Stars: We felt right at home The Inn at 2nd and C is a perfect blend of Victorian elegance and modern conveniences that is in an ideal location for walking to all that Eureka’s historic downtown has to offer. The friendly staff made us, and our dog, feel right at home throughout our stay.

Be warned before making reservations! The hotel is from 1888 and you need to REALLY keep that in mind! There is no TV, no microwave, no coffee in room( or available except in the morning), no blinds on the windows to keep out the light, no fridge in room, etc... just a basic 1888 room. It looks charming online, and it has its charm, but when compared to the missing comforts, nah. Once you arrive and take a look at the room, too bad for you! There is no " manager available " to "allow " you to get any type of refund or partial refund! Yep, you should have known everything about it by looking at the site online!! I have a medical condition that requires certain accommodations, and apparently that isn't a reasonable cause for any refund at all. We finally left to go pay for another hotel room, after no time in their hotel. We asked the clerk to discuss the refund or partial refund with his manager in the morning when he saw him and let us know! The clerk seemed to have no ability to be flexible in this, I totally fault the manager in the policy, so be warned! My companion made the reservation and I felt very, very bad that his credit card was hit for the absolutely unused room charge! I would NOT recommend this hotel, except for as a quick walk in if you are interested in seeing the architecture.

Fun, comfortable & delicious This hotel was very special; we had a fun and comfortable stay. All the small details were on point- a French press and hot water kettle in the room and great bath products. Bed was very comfortable and the vintage decor was next level. Amazing food at the hotel restaurant…
