Seaside, Oregon: Coastal Beauty Surrounding a Family-Friendly Town

Located along Oregon’s Pacific coast, about 80 miles northwest of Portland, the resort town of Seaside has attracted beachcombers since the late 19th century. More recently, the coastal village has become a family destination marked by historical buildings, tree-lined boulevards, and plenty of kid-friendly activities, including mini golf, bumper cars, and arcades.

A 1.5-mile oceanfront promenade—known locally as the Prom—stretches along the beach, its boardwalk speckled with shops and restaurants near grass-covered dunes. Along the Prom, you’ll find a bronze statue of Lewis and Clark that faces the ocean at the historic Seaside Turnaround—the spot where the explorers are thought to have ended their epic westward trek. The Seaside Aquarium is also located along the promenade. Pop in to visit its aquatic residents, including a giant Pacific octopus, tropical fish, and several crowd-pleasing harbor seals.

Guest beware dirty old motel. Stay away. This is an old dirty motel. Rooms were tired. Bed uncomfortable. We opened the bed and there was hair all over probably did not change sheets. Sheets were very itchy. Carpets were old and stained. Room was dark only 1 lamp was working. For the price we paid, you are better off to be in motel 6. Will not recommend.

Perfect place to start Oregon coast trip! I needed to find one night on my Oregon road trip. I was pleasantly surprised with this choice!! Everything from check in to check out was superb! Local salt water taffy and cookies welcomed me as soon as I got to the desk. We checked in, and my teens and I walked to find a nice supper recommended by the hotel staff. I was disappointed the rain and clouds set in because I couldn't use their complimentary bikes to look around! We had to leave early the next morning to head down the coast, but the breakfast was perfect to start our trip.

Pool was as cold as the ocean! We’ve stayed here before. And loved it. But this time it was not a good experience. So bad. We had to move hotels sadly. The main reason is, my granddaughter is autistic. She loves to swim. This is the reason we choose our hotels. So that she can swim. Wednesday night we checked in got settled and went swimming. It was freezing. So cold. I couldn’t stay in. My daughter did so my grandkids could swim. But was miserable. Their lips turned blue. We got out and asked the very sweet lady at the reception about it. She said. I’ll turn it up. But it won’t be ready for 2 hours. It takes awhile. The next morning we went again. Exact same thing. So cold. We asked. They said it was 83 degrees after putting us off for 2 hours. They didn’t care. But I’m telling you 83 degrees doesn’t turn lips blue. So I’m very doubtful. Like I said. We choose our stays based on a pool for the grandkids. We had to get a refund and go to a hotel across town whose pool was as it should be warm and toasty. We come every year and like I said have had a great time before here. The woman when we checked in was wonderful and kind and offered cookies and was a delight. Next morning the crew was rude and didn’t care one bit about us. If you don’t care about the pool and you check in with the right person working. You’ll probably be ok. We’re very sad one of our favorite places to create memories, just didn’t care.
